I hope that when you remove that crazy mount you get more pictures of it, maybe even a dissection for the viewers? Twisted Evil Work looks to be coming along well, hope the head attachment goes off without a hitch! Cool

So we started the Bulkhead replacement today. Had some trouble lining it up with micro movements but got it straight and in the same place the old on was before it was bent. We could not finish the top of the hump but we did get the bottom finished and the top spot welded for stiffness. Tomorrow we will start on the Napoleon Hat and the rest of the welds.

Had some trouble with rust and it making the metal week so it all got cut out and replaced with good metal

We started to weld the rest of the Bulkhead and Napoleon Hat. We finished it and I think it turned out well. Now on to the rear end.

So last night we got much further. We got the Tortion rods together and in and the arms on without much trouble. We got it lubbed and the Spindles back on. We also got the Sway Bar on. We also got the stearing knuckle back on but loose. Waiting on the locking plats for the four main Bulkhead bolts to arrive so we can attach it. We also painted the shocks and are waiting on them to dry. Once on we will fully undercoat it so it will not rust.

Slow but steady progress. We hope to start on the rear tomorrow due to the heat here. It is over 100 degrees even after the sun goes down. Lots of sweat.

Not a problem when it is out of the car. Two vice grips and past experience helps.

There are several threads on this process. I did mine with the beam still installed. Used zip ties to hold it up, and giant $4 pair Harbor Freight channel locks that really helped lock the clamps in place (I did this solo).

In my case my son helped me but I could have done it by myself. Remember if you are doing this to tap the top of the clamp as you tighten it down. It moves the clip lower as it tightens up. One vice grip then the other then the other and end with the one that is on the back so you can get the clip on. I alway have to tap the clips on with a hammer as I tighten.

It is easy to get frustrated and it does not help so as I tell my son. Right tool for the right job.

We got parts today and that allowed us to put the front end on. Notice the locking plates on the front of the beam. yes it will be painted and under coated.

Once we got the beam on and secured we started in on the shocks. I think they turned out well.

We then started on the steering linkage and had trouble getting the old ends off that are clearly bad. Had to heat the ends to get them off in two cases.

We also started on the brake housings but found more issues. Look at how bad this looks. Notice the bolt holding the brake pad on not a spring. ARRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I really hope that bolt was a roadside repair that was later forgotten, but knowing how some treated their bugs- maybe not! Rolling Eyes

So we are working on the breaks and all is going well when We get to the Spacer on the front Spindles and it is hard to get them on. I then find when I am trying to get the inner bearing on it is also tight. and I can not get the outer bearing on at all. I posted a forum to ask for suggestions.
