The grease smudges clean right up.
I go around and press each seal in an outward motion to seat them and see if I can get any grease to come out.
Wipe and enjoy the view.

I had a bit extra so I shot the radiator fan shroud as it had to be swapped for the late model to accommodate the Air Conditioning version fan that is a larger diameter.

Looking at the window install pics...did you lay a bead of grease I the window opening before you installed the window? I Laos assume that you greased the rubber seals as well? I am planning to put my rear window back in a day or two. Thanks.

Yes, we grease the outer window flange lip and the seal recess, than place your wire around the recess and spread the grease around.
This is a two person job.
The other person sets the lower seal in and we each set it with a plastic tool as far as possible, than start with the wire, working slowly up one side, stop, up the other, be careful at the corners and don't tear the seal.
The grease really helps in the corners.
Pay attention to the seam placement of the seals, we prefer the bottom center.
The wire is placed in relation to that seam, shown in the pictures.
Good luck.

What a nice, smooth sound! That computer sure is a big step up from the timing light and my ear that I use on my 2.0 aircooled!!! Sure do wish Bostig had an aircooled conversion kit...

I really like the monstaliner look, we are going to use it to paint our AW top, but I am curious about it on the body, like some truck bed liners that seem to be a velcro pad for dirt, will this stuff hold dirt chunks on or is it a littler smoother? Our old van we used Herculiner on the lower rocker panels and it would literally hold dirt on it even after it rained.

My entire van is monstaliner'd and a hose gets all the dirt off. It also doesn't attract dirt any more than regular paint, if anything i've noticed it stays a bit more clean driving through loose dirt.

Difference (I've been told) is that monstaliner is an epoxy- the texture is created by the roller, whereas most other liners use chunks of rubber. You could brush it on if you wanted, I did in some spots and it's quite smooth. you control the texture when you apply it.

But to answer the question no, monstaliner in particular is not a bedlinen that attracts dirt

Awesome job! I saw all this work up close last week. Very nicely done! That vintage-air AC system is a really cool thing.

Andrew-

Pun intended? Wink It has been amazing as I've made my way out to Colorado! The van drives great and is a huuuuuge upgrade from the Chevy I was in before. Psyched to have this puppy on the road!

I've taken to calling her Monster, with affection, on account of her penchant for eating my wallet, beastliness on the road, and Frankenstein of new and old parts.

She has come a long way since her humble beginnings, with much more to come. I'm pretty sure I will have gotten something or other from every major vendor/conversion shop by the time she is finished. Much thanks to Dylan and all those involved for the awesome work thus far; I'd say we're finally making lemonade over here Very Happy

Hard to miss once you've seen that rugged exterior. Looks as good in person as in pictures.

We monstalined our AW top before install, seeing it in person, really makes me like the texture, but beyond that, how easily it is sprayed on. (how we applied it)

Almost to the point I want to do the whole van Twisted Evil

Thanks for sharing so much info about it!

Hi Dylan, I was siked to see that you installed the Vintage air system in Kyles van. Did you do some cutting to the body of the van to fit it in under the dash? One of your pics looks like you have a tighter fit than other threads Ive seen. Awesome work! Thanks GreggK

I cut the dash support structure as described in the directions.
You must do this to make room for the defrost ducts that are run over top of the VA system.

Thought you all might like an update; I've just been hella busy out here on the West coast, enjoying some much needed vacation.

First stop was the front range in Colorado. Stopped by RMW to get some touch ups and a few sweet upgrades:

* their below-seat lock box (pictures will come eventually)
* dash-mounted scangauge II (still need to contact Bostig to see why it won't sleep automatically when the car is off).

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After that was a visit to Sewfine to fix up the sliding door curtain, which mistakenly came with some hooks. Sewfine was kind enough to give me a full tour of their shop, and gave a ton of detail on the amazing work they do over there!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here's a shot of the inside with the curtains all done up:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Next went up to Crested Butte, CO for some climbing.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The van is now up at Peace Vans, patiently waiting its turn to get a battery tray for some eventual solar panels, amongst a few other upgrades. The panels will go up once Joel @ Green Syncro puts on the high top, which will happen in October. After that, the van will have finished all its major projects, and my wallet will finally get a serious break!

I'm currently down in Southern Cali; just hiked a third of the JMT before we got smoked out, then went for some psuedo big-wall climbing in the High Sierras. Going to keep hanging out here and the bay area until the van is done at Peace Vans! More pictures to come as the van gets its touch-ups.

Awesome Exclamation
Sounds just like your original plan.
Curious to see how the extra battery tray works out.
That is a very nice upgrade.
