When I open the hood and lock the latch, the hood is badly "warped".
Is that a hinge failure or the results of a cracked hood? Not much of a body man. Thanks.

Probably a cracked hood from the dreaded "hood prop"

Will try to remove this weekend and get into the light and check. Car is on rear corner of my enclosed carport and everything is hard to see. Thanks for the suggestion.

That damage was caused by attempting to close the hood while the prop was engaged

Yup!
Someone used a lot of force doing so.... normally at some point only the lower lip cracks under the pressure when the front hood prop is still in the open "position" when one shuts the hood without disengaging the hood prop. Looks like you have a whole gap there!

It was a common problem known to the "earlier Volkswagen bug" owners back in the old days when gas stations still had employees who would fill the car up for you (nowadays it's all self service gas stations); the employees just pressed on the lid to close it, while unaware that it's necessary to release the hood prop first, and there your go!
In the end Volkswagen put springs on to support the front hood.

What would be the best solution to fix this with enough support? It is definitely a common problem.
