|

Hello
Here's a 40hp Judson aircleaner. I'm trying to estimate decklid clearances with different setups.
Could someone please measure the height of a 36hp Judson aircleaner? The distance I need is: from the flat area (carburetor hole) - to the top. |

Thank You.
Here's some carb heights for comparison. 28PICT needs the additional spacer, it doesn't have to be super thick, even 10.5mm did the job for me. I've seen somewhere a 36hp air cleaner on top of a 28PICT, and 40hp carb & linkage with a 36hp Judson. There could be possibilities.

I have got a 56 bus with a 36 HP and don't like the idea of cutting the engine bay roof for a Judson to fit in.(I don't mind taking some of the support rib out). The problem is that I want to put the Judson in with upright carby and the air filter to suit.
I have got 210 mm from the top of manifold to the top of engine bay.
From this post I have calculated with my 28 PCI carby and the 57.5 mm filter height and the 76 mm height increase from the Judson I would get 240.5 mm and this is not including gaskets.
I was wondering if I could use a different VW carby set up to lower this amount by about 35 mm. I can see that the 28 PICT would lower it by 20 mm, but is there anything else that I could use? Maybe something of a Type 3 engine.
Also if I did go this way, would there be much modification to the throttle linkage setup?
The alternative is to not use the air filter and use some of that fine filtering material directly on top of the carby. I know that these are made for some old style Dellorto carbys that you see on old motorcycles (Eg Ducati 250).
Has anyone used this method, or is it not recommended?
Your thoughts and answers are appreciated.
Pete. |

Skyto, I do apologise for hijacking your thread, but it has given me some ideas, dimensions and questions that I needed to ask. Thank you,
Pete. |

28 PICT wouldn't lower it 20mm, it still needs some sort of spacer for the accel pump arm to clear. My guess is max 10mm lower.
One interesting detail, the Brosol/Solex 30 PIC has the same height as the 28PICT. However the vac advance is like that of a 28PCI, only one hole above the throttle plate. No venturi vacuum. It won't give high rpm advance, a vacuum/centrifugal distributor is needed (as in a stock 36hp). |

A silly question: Are 32pci and 28pict "same" carb? I'll plan put dual 32pci on my 1600DP |
