36HP engine stamped BM ?

I just picked up a heap of Oval parts, and one of the engines has the engine number as BM1 - 8180

Has anyone come across this before ? I know BZ has been seen.

As this is an early 36hp I would presume it is not a Brazillian engine - any help appreciated.

Looks to me like an engine rebuild mark.

The original numbers would have been just above those on that flat/smooth area. It almost looks like the original numbers were ground off.

The letters "BMI" could be the rebuilders initials (common practice). The numbers could mean a wide range of things
