Found a good deal on an abandoned 1957 Oval. Work began 15 years ago and left to sit. Same family owned since the Early 70s. Father passed it on and the son began a restoration/repair job.
This will be my first Pan-Off. I have owned an oval, a 59, 62, and 66. But never completely torn down.

The body was all unbolted when I got it. I actually had to strap it together in order to tow it home. So it was easy to get cleaned up. I tried to just brush blast all the rust and grease away, but the pan is so thin it still made a ton of holes. |

Torn down to Just a tunnel (a first time for me) , and new pans spotted in. And yes, I'm the good looking guy in the picture.

Transmission is all sealed up and painted. Only needed a few bearings and seals. Rear wheel bearing seals replaced. back plates blasted and brakes are about done.

You work really fast- all that work in just a month! At that rate you'll be driving the restored body before Thanksgiving...
Did the car come with an engine? Will you stay with a stock engine or go for more power since you are installing the modified front beam? |

Yeah, I admire your enthusiasm and the progress you've made already. Congrats on the great find too! I know I was super excited when I found my 56 that was stored in a little shed behind an older ladies house. Their still out there but getting harder to find these days. In fact I recently found a 66 (black with red interior) that's still with the original owner. Her husband started working on it like 20 years ago to fix the battery tray and passed away so it's been untouched in their garage ever since. Not an oval but still very cool when ya find em. Keep up the good work and good luck with it. |

Thanks Guys,
Rome, I had a quick start because the body was all unbolted, and interior gutted. I brought everything else home in the bed of a truck. The rest will go much slower, but I can see where I tricked you into thinking I did a lot of work . Yes it has the original engine, all numbers match. I plan to stay with the 36 hp, and 6 volts.
56bugdan, wish I would have taken a picture at his garage. But yeah, it was a good find. And the most I've done, so I hope its a keeper. 66 is a great car, did you end up bringing it home? |

No. I didn't bring it home because she said her Grandson wanted it but his father was right there and told her "he doesn't want that thing". I plan to stop back in and check on it periodically so ya never know. I just hope they don't drag it to the local junk yard if something happens to her and they figure out the kid doesn't want it. |

Fuel Line (in tunnel), brake lines, cables....etc. Are all complete. The engine is in, and everything is pretty much done. I'm going to start working on the body.

The seller had found the front fenders. So I have all 4 OG fenders, 4 tab hood, W Deck lid. Matching Pan, Engine, Trans, and Body. The car will be 100% Matching numbers and Original except the floors, and small patches. |

well yeah, the beam , spindles, and spring plates. But if I pass the car onto someone else at some point, at least they could put it back on if they wanted. I kept them, and I have what I consider the important pieces of the car. I just cant help to have a beetle lowered. |
