Hi, I just bought a 1986 Cabrio. It needs an interior amongst other things, but there are some questions I have. The transmission seems to want to miss first gear, when shifting into first it puts itself in third or Reverse. Now could that be a bearing, or something small? I'm really hoping that its not the whole transmission. The previous owner said he had plans to 2.0 swap it from an mk3 Cabrio. He was telling me that it hooks right up to existing motor mounts, and bolts right up to the transmission? I'm not too sure if that's true or not so I thought I would put the question out there, as I can always YouTube it too. And, what would be the best and cheapest coilover or lowering spring set up thatll drop it a decent amount? Thanks, nic. Smile

Could be that it needs new linkages and/or an adjustment:

He's referring to the ABA engine. Yes, it mounts directly in the engine bay, but it's not that simple: http://selenengineering.blogspot.com/p/mk1-aba-swap-how-to.html

You can also do a hybrid, ABA block mated to the stock JH head: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4612942-ABA-JH-Swap .
