What am I missing? Is there more than one type of alternator stands? Does a Motorola alternator require a unique stand?

Your first photo indicates that you have a stand for a 12 volt generator, not for an alternator. Alt stands for any type of original or aftermarket replacement alternators are cut back in the saddle where the alt sits, as well as the top of the stand below the saddle. The cutback is so that the bigger diameter rear section of the alt body can slide forward enough.
Try BugCity in Berlin CT for a good used one. |

You need an alternator stand, you have a generator stand.
Your fan shroud looks to be a 36 hp knock off. so poor cooling, but will work. _________________ Wash your hands

Thanks, when I bought the stand the guy said it was an alternator stand.
Yes, the shroud is a 36 HP Scat shroud. _________________ 1962 Beetle

If it's a doghouse one, try filling in the gap that's in the back
