So im new to this site, my fiancee is a VW freak.. She has a 65 vw single cab truck, a 72 super beetle and a 78 westfalia. We just found her final vw shes been wanting a 69 squareback. My question is what kinda electrical system does this car have? 12 or 6 volt and if it is 6 volt how had is it to convert to 12? Also if its 12v do you have to run the generator? Why not a chevy type single wire delco-remy alternator.. The car has been sitting since 93 and is very rust free but im sure the gastank needs attention.. Is it removable in this car? Im asking these questions ahead of time cause we plan on fixing it up and getting it on the road with the rest of her fleet and havent taken delivery of it yet.. Next week! |

'69 should also be (or at least originally was) fuel injected so if it's got carbs, somebody's been messing around.
I echo the previous response about replacing all fuel lines, especially if it still has fuel injection.
The generator works fine but people have converted to alternators. The trick is doing it well and maintaining the cover over the pulley so the cooling fan isn't drawing in hot air from within the engine compartment which it would do if you leave the cover off. You can search this forum for alternator conversions and get lots of good info. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Good call, most of the successful alternator conversions seem to involve a Geo Metro alternator. Again, use the search and you'll find lots of info. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

A good way to learn by others mistakes is to read other build threads .
Most of the forums have a " Projects and Build " Sticky at the top of the page but not this one . find threads with 5 or more pages and start reading.
The paint/body forum has a wealth of great info Too .
Learn how to search and see if your question has been asked AND answered ; then ask away _________________ 63 two fold rag

Maybe in Australia...
12v became standard for the 1967 model year, but was an option from 1963 on. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
