If you decide you want an electric wiper assembly, to clear the back of the dash, etc., it should be one that looks like this. Not sure of exact years but I think 58-67. The 67 is best because it has a 12v motor, however you can buy the new pieces to upgrade a 6 volt wiper motor to 12v.
You need longer bus wiper arms or need to extend the sedan arms.

On one of my buggies I had a motor clearance problem. I used a wiper assembly just like this one. The solution was to remove the motor and relocate the motor to a more spacious area {to the left of the steering column}. The pushrod that runs from the motor to the left wiper shaft was then lengthened and shaped to clear any obstacles.

I worked out a very simple and clean solution for a manual/handheld wiper setup on my buggy. Searched high and low for a solution, I saw this post that had a similar setup mounted on the top of the window (North Carolina buggy) - I have little to no room behind my dash for automatic wipers, post 68 integrated speedo/gas gauge and electric fuel pump center mass, so I got busy working out something that anyone can duplicate easily, cheap, no welding.
Less than $100 check this out !!!
One Modification needed. The Size of the eyelet on the adapter is 3/8" - the threaded barrel on the Marinco wiper is 7/16" - I used a 3/8" sharp/new drill bit and slowly made the 3/8" hole to exactly the size where it actually fit in a threaded manner over the barrel. Once done, screwed the adapter 10mm directly into the MANX mirror mount which is also 10mm with loctite - its very stable. adjusted the manual arm to work closely next to the mirror side. Its out of the way, very stable, and looks great. The Marinco wiper is a little more expensive than the cheaper ones you can buy, however, most of the parts are stainless (specific boat manufacturer) - see below final assembly and installation:

Very nice indeed!
I've been using a clamp on golf cart deal and it looks like crap. I'm also from the school that it would meet regs in Florida . I'll be doing a copy, thanks.

(3) The windshield on every motor vehicle shall be equipped with a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield, which device shall be constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver of the vehicle.
(4) Every windshield wiper upon a motor vehicle shall be maintained in good working order.

Solid as a rock, pulled it down just about 1/2" from where it was before for exact horizontal alignment with bottom of windshield glass - no buffeting at high speeds, didn't budge, easy reach to operate:

The other option which allows use of a top and wind deflectors and leaves it out of your vision when not in use, is to have a hole cut in your windshield and use one of these https://www.amazon.com/Marinco-31000-Wiper.../dp/B000NI1D2I

You cannot cut a hole in your windshield without cracking it...so your suggestion will not work

You can't cut/drill a hole in tempered glass(side and rear glass).
Your windshield is laminated Safety glass. It can be cut/drilled by an automotive glass shop. Here is a video of it being done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXSDBd3_DO8

Even though my original photo shows the bracket mounted on the top of the windshield, nothing prevents that same bracket from being mounted on the side of the windshield frame. I have mounted it there myself in the past, locating it just above the level of the top edge of the hood. It did not affect the wiper arm's use in any negative way.

Why go thru all that trouble and expense to get that procedure done ?
It's cheaper and less of a hassle to just the wiper arm..

I've neen a resurgence in interest in this type of hand wiper in the US in recent years and to be honest, I just don't get it.
I've built and worked on numerous Manx and Manx type buggies since 1970 and have been able to fit the stock Beetle rack (granted sometimes with a bit of shimming and tweaking ) to all of them, most with a centre mounted VW speedometer/fuel guage. Bruce even molded two little humps on the hood spaced to take one to make it easy.
Surely if it's raining and you haven't got a top then you're going to get rain water on both sides of the screen, so what? You use this little wiper with one hand and clear the inside of the screen with the other and...steer with your knees? I'd sooner keep both hands on the wheel thanks. If you have got a top then you can't fit one of these anyway so to be safe you need electric wipers.
Good visibility is paramount for safe driving in today's traffic so why risk your own and the safety of others for the sake of the simple fittment of a wiper rack, arms and a switch.
My Manx 2 fitted with an early 70s 12v two speed rack, Land Rover spindle adapters and classic Mini Cooper S stainless blades and arms.

The little crank wipers not for clearing the windshield it's about keeping the law at bay. Theres not a wiper, power or otherwise, that will clear both the inside and outside in a Florida downpoor. IMO they just take up space.

If I were a Florida cop (of which I actually know quite a few) and I was presented with one of those as a wiper I'd probably say 'seriously?' and find something else to ticket you for...lol...
Wiper mechanism taking up space? Not useable space though surely?
I take the point about Florida downpours but they do have ordinary rain there too, or at least they do in the part I visit (Panhandle). |

Taken up space was simply an simply an expression.
Yes we have regular rain here too but the natives just don't notice it....

Sure, but I'm still more in favor of building 'up to a specification' of at least what the donor Bug was fitted with rather than 'what can I get away without?' A few Americans have asked what the little black spot on my hood to the rear of the gas cap is, obviously not used to seeing washer jets on a buggy...lol... |

Florida cops don't give a damn.. they are just too busy texting and driving so they are not going to write anyone up for anything else..
