Hello!
I've bought nice vw riviera 73 bus. It's original one exept carburator. What carb should I buy? Is it single carb or double carbs system?
Here are pictures of my bus
Have you got any pictures how it looks in original bus?
Thanks!

it looks like you have a factory intake manifold like VW used on their T127 industrial engines and some variety of solex carb. You would need to pull the numbers off the carb to see what you actually have. The system might work fine if you hooked up the pipes that ran to the muffler on the T127 system.

This is one of the carbs that VW used on the T127, don't know if that is what you have or not.

My 1973 bus was built with a Type 4 1700cc engine with an automatic transmission. It is supposed to have these:

It is a dual carburetor set-up using Solex 32-34 PDSIT-2 and a preheat air box with paper element filter. Distributor is a SVDA type 205F

be interested to know what the jetting for that carb is and see one of those T-4/ T1- dual ports heads look like.

If you continue to run it , you will need to fix the motor seals.

If you find out it's an industrial- stationary motor, the cam may be different- -- Embarassed I don't know as never worked on one before.

X2, no road should be visible from above.

That's an interesting swap, I don't recognise the carb but the manifold would be fantastic if the preheat was hooked up, so much better than the progressive.

But the ultimate fix would be put the FI back on, no messing with preheat plumbing, jetting, linkages or aircleaner adaptation, just bolt it on and get the best out of your motor.

Edit:, just noticed it's a 73, the late breather fooled me, I still vote FI Very Happy

Sorry for a late reply.
I checked the engine numbers one more time. Engine is not original from this bus. The symbhol is GE - 1978-79 Bus, 2.0 liter, L-Jetronic, Hydraulic Lifter and originally should be CD.
IT means engine is newer one and should be with injection system. But I decided to not buying whole system (it's hard to find one in good condition. What do you think about fuel injection/carburator conversion? Single carb or double carbs? Where to get it?
Thanks!
Here someone has installed carb but it's not for the bus (it was from BMW sic!)

I have a full dual carb system including airbox and all the bits to convert to stock dual carbs.
They worked well but now my motor is upgraded and those carbs are too small.
Would you be interested in them?

Running a 1700cc motor in the 73 Sportsmobile, if I wanted to get rid of dual carbs and go to another single carb what would one suggest? Does anyone have a 1700 and could tell me their carb setup?

Thanks

Stick with the original dual carbs. Learn to tune them properly ( not that hard ). 1700 does not need to breath much, and the PDSIT's have lots of write-ups here for tuning.

You should hit him up^^^

72-74 have the last of the dual carburetor set ups. After that its all FI - for US bound Bay Windows.

Here is a pic of my 74 with its proper dual setup.

Search for "progressive" "carburetor" and see what others have to say.

It is in the kitchen. How else can I easily get the freshly cleaned tin out of the dish washer? Rolling Eyes

Laughing

That was in the old house in San Antonio - right before I bailed. No wife friend, no kids. Just me and a mostly empty house before I popped the motor back in the bus and split. Cool That motor is also an unmolested factory example. All I did as clean & paint - put back together.

If you have a choice Id go to duel carbs for sure. They don't need to be stock as there are many options. Single progressives are ok to get around but will never give you the power of duals.

Sweet nice plan. OK cool Ill check out the dual carb setup. I think they just need cleaned and new gaskets applied. They ran petty good, but I thought I saw them leaking or something...plus with a single carb I could get rid of another gas line..I ordered a 1700cc gasket kit so I can try that first..
