So we are working on the breaks and all is going well when We get to the Spacer on the front Spindles and it is hard to get them on. I then find when I am trying to get the inner bearing on it is also tight. and I can not get the outer bearing on at all. I posted a forum to ask for suggestions.

Did you heat them before you put them on. I heated mine and they fell on. I had a pipe the right diameter to hold and tap the spacer to make sure it was seated. You can heat them in the oven.

So last night I took a second outer bearing and it fit right on. What the hell. The bearing is the issue. I have a second set of Spindles and the second bearing fits on it also but the first outer bearing I used does not fit. The inner diameter is 20.00 mm and the inner surface of the bad bearing is 19.88 mm. Never seen bearings machined wrong?????

Just a question before you get too far. Did you test fit the body onto the new bulkhead/Napolean Hat before you fully welded it?

That's a major replacement and I hope all is lined up.

Good luck on the build

So I and my son finally make our first goal. We got the front together. Our next goal is to get the tranny and rear wheels back on.

With good surface prep before paint, and perhaps a good coating of wax over the paint, it should look that good for a while! Very nice! Cool

So we got one pan on and we are working on the other. We used a jig to drill holes in the pan to weld it properly. Once we welded the pan on we ground the welds and put RTV Sealant on the joints to fully seal the area. Once dry we covered it in FlexSeal.

Looking good. Nice jig setup for drilling the holes in the floor pans. I'm getting ready to install replacement floor pans as well. Curious, where did you order your replacements from? I'm considering WW for mine, they seem to be the best quality in terms of repro and original gauge...

We got the pans from JBugs but we also got a front clip, rear clip, heater channels, quarter panels and the bulkhead from WolfburgWest (WW) They are OK quality. We have had to convince them to fit in placed but it is not too bad. The metal on everything except the Bulkhead is of average quality but is very thin compared to the original stuff. On the lowest settings of my wire welder I had to be very careful not to blow through on every weld. On positive side I contacted WW on the damage to the pieces as they arrived and they sent me a $50.00 gift card for further purchases even though the damage was done by FEDEX not them. I was not looking to complain only to let them know.

Got the drivers side pan all cleaned up and sealed. We are now working on replacing the hubs and getting the break lines put in.
My son is very happy on how it turned out.

So we got more work done today. We got the break lines I. What a pain to put in non-prebend lines. I also found that our Master Cylinder has 4 points for break lines and a filler point. One point is for the back two lines and one each for the front two lines. Anyone know why that is? Never seen that before.

Yeah, I agree, that rear line needs re-done. Also, those are kind of sharp bends compared to how VW did it.

Sorry guys. You ever have one of those moments when you know it is wrong but everything in you says the way you are doing it is right. After I posted the pics I was like WTF. I know it is wrong and show humility . Embarassed

I will fix it and repost soon. I am missing some pedal parts and am waiting on them. I am not sure I will change the sharp bend unless I have issues. It seems to work for now.

So we decided to start the sand blasting on the body and we found out that we had weather coming in. So we decided to build a sand blasting booth that we could heat and collect the sand up. We will put a door in the rear also. I think it will work fine. I think we can later use it as a paint booth.
