So, does this mean new beetles are rare now?

Beetles no, touaregs yes. I think it was 3-400 beetles destroyed, it was over 1000 touaregs. As if China's air quality wasn't bad enough already, you can only imagine how bad it is just from the burned cars much less the tons of stuff that caused the explosions.

eh, don't care for either model. And Chinese air quality won't go either way minus a few thousand vehicles they lost. The vehicles were prolly actually helping the air quality, it's their factories that is making the real mess. No controls that are enforced, just like the cause of this debacle.

I have to wonder, who eats that? Are they insured or is vw eating it, or the dock?

Anywhere but China, I'd say some insurance company will be paying.
So how do you clean up a mess like that?

In china, I bet they pay a bunch of persons fresh in from the countryside pennies a day. Just like the factory workers. They'll just make more if they need em.

Hey there are plenty more pics on the interweb of just that - thousands of VWs sitting there destroyed. The more I looked into it the more I saw it was all VW product only afaik. Thanks for starting a thread though Applause

If that were to happen here - the insurance carriers would all subrogate to see who ultimately was to pay. The place that blew, the company leasing the space, the dock, VW and so on. In the beginning its each affected parties insurance co responsibility to make sure the damaged are made whole first then see who to subrogate against. But sometimes it becomes a big litigation mes depending on the circumstances - like if the building had something in it that was not supposed to be there under the lease or even the insurance policy. Then it becomes a blood from a turnip battle.
