|
|
So I thought since my wipers were stuck in the up or return position I could just loosen the nuts and re position and then they'd be parked in the correct position. This is false. They go down by the headlights instead. I replaced my motor last year by buying a new one from Bus depot. I'd guess its Brazilian - So it works, just leaves my blades in the up position instead of lying flat out the way - all wipers when not in motion. Is there an easy fix that I am missing? OR any ideas of new decent wiper motors that will last more than a year which is actually a few months since this one rests in the winter and I can honestly say I haven't hit too much rain since the install.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
PS nothing against Bus Depot just saying point of purchase.

Look at detailed description under picture.

"originally designed for Brazilian made Buses, but will fit German made Buses as well."
"The motor mounts at a different angle, so to compensate you may need to remove and reposition the splined lever arm so the wipers still park in the correct position."
Splined lever arm. Is on the motor. |

The fix WAS easy, before you installed the new motor. Note that the position shown in the Bentley manual (Fig. 10-4, Electrical chapter)
for the "drive crank" (= "splined lever arm") may not be correct. It certainly wasn't for the wiper motor on my '71 bus. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

I like the part about wiping the headlights.... _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Right
IT was working fine and I had a bracket made to adapt it to my bus but now it won't resent to correct "parked" position.
So it worked for a little bit.
Thanks for all the input thus far. _________________ Nothin left to do....

Hmm . . . Bus Depot sez the motor should install without mods (other than moving the drive arm) on bay busses up to and including '74.
Is that info incorrect? Sounds almost like the drive arm has moved on the motor . . . not good! _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

When you replaced the motor did you also remove/dismantle/clean/lube the pivots?, if they are still nearly siezed the new gear may have spun on the shaft like the old one did. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It was messy and some fabrication for the the new mount.
Motor worked not problem, then a good rain storm a few weeks ago left them in the up position. They still wipe fine and got to the same points on the wind shield.
On the install it was more of a fitting then then anything else.
Seems odd that it lost its way form parked to upright. It certainly could have slipped - the disc in side but not sure how to "reset" it or if that's even an option.
Again thanks for all the input. _________________ Nothin left to do....
