Just replace front brakes with disc. They shimmy / shake on the right side so the problem is over there. Before I start taking things apart let me ask this question: if I did not center the caliper on the rotor (shims) will this happen?

I wouldn't think that your problem would be from lack of centering. Disc brakes tend to self center themselves. I would look at the rotor itself. It might have run out, or wobble. If you have a dial indicator, put it on the rotor and spin it. If not, grab a screw driver, and clamp it / tape it to the spindle so the tip just touches the rotor. Then spin the rotor. If the rotor move in and out from the screwdriver tip, that is probably your problem.

You need to shim up the caliper so the rotor is centered. That's why they give you those shim washers in the kit.
