[quote="oval56"]hi peter, hi john,

i have tested the cooler now about 9000km, i hav also some long disdance runs ( 550km in 4 ,5hours, 200km in 1,5hours...., )

in the meantime i have also used the small pulley from the 356 porsche..

Hi Andy how big is the 356 pulley in diameter?
Do you know how much more cooling it provides?

hi peter, here is a pic, the bigger one is nearly the same as the stock pulley, the other one a bitt smaler! but in this setup all 356 are run great ( the big one is mostly used by industry 356 engines)

i had no changes of the oiltemp after exchangeing the pulley. the only thing is that the engine runs a bit better at hig rpms, caused by the less resistant from the airfan (lower rpms at the fan)

now i do have installed the stock cooler, and i wil reinstall the bigger pulley for my first teststep...

But if the pulley is smaller would that not mean less cooling?
I have been looking for one of those for another engine project that I have in the works, I have found one but it has 5 holes?!
And is 14,5cm in diameter, what does yours meassure?

hi peter, i wil check the diameters, but yes there are different versions outside (same diameter) witz different styels of number of holes.

tht coolin fact, sure the fan runns att a lower rpm range, but at one point, the rpm of the fan is limmited, it does not privide mor cooling, so if you use the smaller pulley, the temperature at lower speed rises a little bit, but at higher speed it has nearly the same level as before with the larger pulley

but if you want to use the porsche pulleys correct you have to modifiy it for the oil otherwiese your engine will leak on the pulley!

porsche do normaly have a sael on the front pulley ( like the rear seal at the flywheel

vw has the groove for transporting the oil back into the housing on the pulley, porsche has on all pulleys ( excludeing pre a) a bearing surface without the grooves !!

I had to add something to this old oil temp question. I just drove my 62 beetle for over 150 miles of mountain roads and I think the changes I made to the cooling system has helped greatly. I'm running a Judson on a stock 40hp motor. The Judson and the motor are both rebuilt with the motor having around 1000 miles of run time. I had major engine heat problems and had to make some changes to correct the heat issue. I corrected a lean fuel problem first by drilling the main jet out to .058. That got the fuel mixture dead on and I also set the timing at 7.5 degree BTDC. That made a noticeable difference in the running temp. I've now set the oil drip rate on the Marvel oiler to about 1 quart usage every 500 miles. I also changed the pulleys on the crankshaft to the later 7" diameter and the smaller Porsche 356 generator pulley. After our trip through the mountains with outside air temp at 90 degrees the oil temp reading was 165 and the Judson steel housing temp was 145.
