Are you sure it's metal?
It could be a piece of gasket or something. _________________ Glenn

not sure if it was actually brass i was just trying to eplain the color. as i said it was only specks the rest of it was grey in color. i pulled the plugs just to take a look at them and everything looked good no oil burnning. i also adjusted the valves and everything was fine from when i last did them (every 1,500 miles). _________________ aircooled for life (1972 squareback cal look) |

It possibly could be, maybe some type of gasket sealer. Used by a P.O. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

i know the engine is still a bit on the new side. the previous owner had it installed when the original engine threw a rod. he said it had about 1,500 miles on it when i bought it and i have put at least 2,500 on it so far and have changed the oil twise. i did notice that where the case goes together whoever built the engine used a lot of sealant on the case so maybe that is it. maybe i am just worrying about nothing iduno it was just one of those things that you don't wana see when you change oil. time will tell as to whether or not it is metal. _________________ aircooled for life (1972 squareback cal look) |

One time I changed my oil and I found two 14mm nuts just inside the screen. In a huge panik, I wrapped them up like a couple of severed fingers and rushed them to my local VW shop. My mechanic looked at them and told me that there was no place inside my motor that they went. I now have them hanging by a string from my rear-view just in case someday my motor suddenly blows up and I need them.

Could it be copper colored?
That would mean your bearings are really fat gone. Hope not but that"s what I found at my last oil change.
