I had that same exhaust on one of my THING's...couldn't agree more. I hated the sound and it was the first thing to go. Graduated to a TRI-MIL exhaust and loved the sound...it is loud...but throaty.
Before: (shin cutters)
After: through the bumper TRI-MIL

Tri Mill exhaust is nice but REALLY LOUD!!!! I have one on mine, coated black and it looks and sounds great. But it's too damn loud and that's even with some silencers on it. If I could get the noise down, it would be perfect. _________________ Buck

I used the TTS headers, they look great and they sound good not to loud!
Only thing is that with the rear disk brakes, on the passenger side, will
not clear the caliper!! have to do a little fab work, but I think I will work. |

I have the Empi version of the Tri Mil through the bumper exhaust. It is the ceramic coated one . Have had it for over two years and still no rust. It is loud over 55 mph. Also at times get exhaust smell in the cabin which I did not have with the previous header type. Overall I am happy with this exhaust and it was cheaper than the Tri Mil version. |

I built a system that exits out the stock bumper holes. It uses 2 flowmasters.

Is there a way to use the exhaust below with heat exchangers? Need the adaptors in red above.

I live in So Cal and have a BN-4 heater in my 73 so this works out perfectly. I have to admit it is NOT the most quiet exhaust made. It does fit very well but I do not like having to take off the muffler to adjust the valves.

I still like the Bugpack dual quite pack I get so many compliments on the way they look they like the look of all the pipes and it has a nice sound. If you want to look at a lot of choices other Thing owners have go to our website to find over 1500 pictures of Things http://kubeltreffen181.com

There is an exhausted (pun intended) thread on this in the "stickies" at the top of this forum.

Try just changing the exhaust tips out
You can get flared ones or tapered for a better sound _________________ Michael Basso
