Getting ready to Paint the baja tomorrow. Couple of questions before i start.
I will be spraying Delfleet Essential Single Stage overtop 2k sanding sealer.
The spec sheet says 2 coats with a flash time of 10 minutes. So I should wait about 10 minutes then spray a second coat????
If i need to spray a 3rd or 4th coat how long should I wait???

You really almost cant wait too long between coats, but you can put them on too soon. I would wait 10-15 min for second coat, then maybe 20-25 maybe even 30 min for the 3rd. Another 30 if your going to do a 4th. These flash times are super important so you dont get solvent pop.

Keep in mind that you really only need to wait the recommended time from when you start spraying, but if you have the time, wait longer. It will all dry more quickly and you will have less problems.

I actually just sprayed some of that on a rollback truck bed Saturday. It has good covereage, so I really doubt you will need more than 3 coats. I hammered mine on because I was spraying such a large surface. It would have taken forever trying to go around more than twice.

Buguy, and others, helped me immensely with the painting of my bug. I would listen to him. On my first attempt I definitely did not wait long enough thinking I had to rush to get the coverage down and screwed up a bunch of parts. Ive learned that patience and not rushing it, plus many lighter coats produces a way better finish. Make yourself do something between coats, make a sandwich, clean your gun, have a smoke, etc. Patience is a virtue when it comes to this.

Got it painted. Two coats would of been enought but inadd a light third just to get the doors better. So far only two drips. one near the rear vents trying to mist inside.
I used the devilbliss dekups system. Works great, just make sure you have a cup in there before you pour the paint.

Dont feel bad. I got a run when I sprayed it too! It definately has to be sprayed right on the edge of running to get it to lay smooth.

I wonder if that stuff can be wet sanded and buffed? Would save you from having to reshoot it. Im under the gun at work trying to get a truck done for a customer that has a show Saturday he wants to take it to, or I would try it myself. I might call my rep tomorrow and ask. He will know.

That's a awesome color. Depending on how mint you want it, I would imagine you should be able to knock some of that peel down. If you end up sanding thru the clear in the process, you could always just clear it again. Either way you're going to have to sand a bit.

Not sure if I am going to sand the whole car or not. I kind of like the rough texture if I can get it even. Just reshoot the door and fenders. I am also running out of warm weekends to paint.
Might just start the assembly of the ar during the winter months.
I can always sand ant top coat in the spring.

I had 23 psi at the gauge on the gun. That was before i pulled the trigger That should of given me 10 psi at the tip.
Devilbliss finishline
The drip at the rear vents was from trying to fog the spray in too long.
I am starting to think that i over did the last coat. That and all the overspray on my glasses didn't help. Heck I always wanted to paint a car.

DWP

Still trying to decide on a way to paint the inside roll bars black.
I need to stop adding more work and just finish the car.

Yeah..I thought you might have been low on pressure. With my Devilbliss finishline I think I have something like 50-60psi at the gun.

I am no expert by any means. But I think psi should be measured while trigger is pressed. Hence you were probably a little low on pressure. Knock it down, crank up the psi, and shoot some clear!

There is no way to tell what you have at the cap without a cap guage. But I would suspect 23 is a bit low. Either way its done now. If you spray more, you might bump that to more like 29 psi. I talked to my guy today and he said if you were going to fix it you better get to it. He says that shit gets rock hard after a few days. The longer it sits, the harder it gets.

Also you cant check psi at the gun without it pulled. That only tells you how much you are getting to the gun. You have to pull the trigger, then adjust the pressure.
