I have an extra set if you can't find any locally..

These little beauties showed up on my doorstep this morning!! Thanks Clatter!

Really, you should thank guys like Nate and Brent.

I'm just a greedy hoarder like everybody else,
but,
Having been softened by the extreme kindness of some people here,
I just have to pay it forward now...

Still here, but the project is going very slow. Our new little boy demands all our attention so I have to steal garage time when mom ain't looking! I'm waiting on a few final parts for the motor and the body work is progressing at a snails pace. Will post some pics this weekend. I have a box of goodies for you just need to find a spare minute to get to the post!

I should choose my words more carefully this being the Internet and all....he is 9 months old and is all over the place. He also thinks sleep is an optional excersise. That said, yesterday we played Volkswagens and to my amazement he immitated the vroom vroom of a finely tuned 1600...daddy is proud.

Progress is slow, but I'm really pleased with the results so far. Once all the grinding (there is a ton to do) is done and everything smooth, filled rust proofed and painted...this pain will be worth it. I realized after I got back from the shop that I didn't take any pics from inside showing the heater channel work or rear seat area...next time.
These projects are really a lesson in patience...enjoy!

Found NOS outer heater channel skins. My heater channels were near perfect on the upper door sill side and about half way down so we pieced it together. The inner channels were replaced with NOS pieces as well. The door gap is perfect!

The rear seat areas were completely gone...now they are not! For the step area, I used pieces made by Konny in Germany. They were very nice and saved a ton of fab time.

Was really nice to have found some NOS repair sections for the lower inner rear fender area.

A bit more Progress...one day at a time. The repairs are still a bit in the rough stage so lots of grinding and smoothing yet to be done, but it's getting there!

The car is looking good...coming along very nicely.

My 65 took a hiatus when my son was born and now, two years later, it's slowly coming back to life.

The body of my car has been at the shop for two years now (free storage!) but it's almost done now. My car was in a similar condition to yours from the B pillars back.

I've also been playing around with Zinc plating and it seems to be working nicely on some of the old small bits. I know most things are/were Cad plated, but thats not a DIY job for me and also not legal to do yourself here.

Thanks! Yeah the free storage thing keeps me from being in rush Wink Those nice front frame horns you sent me a year ago are just about next on the long list of to do's as I get ready to attack the pan Wink

The pan edges were gone so I purchased new pieces from Werk34 in Germany and they are very good.

Fit the newly rebuilt front end from Bert and this pup is seriously slammed so that will need attention.

The body looks really nice, inside and out. We Epoxy coated, then painted the repair areas, but this is just temporary as the entire car will eventually be painted in L60D as orignal.

Windshield installed with new ISP seal and original trim. I'm pretty happy with the result. There is a very small gap in the lower corner areas between the seal and glass, but hopefully that will seat in due time. The seal was very easy to install.

That's just a test-fit of the front windshield, right?

Don't tell me this is going to be one of those patina/hood-ride things with primer and bare metal spots all over... Shame on you

I'm scared thinking that the next installment will show up tomorrow, and have it looking just like that last pic, only with headlights, and you sayng "All Done!"

DUHHH of course it is!! Haaa hood ride now thats funny!! Being a pan scraper here in DK is cool cause our roads are smooth and flat...I have lots of stickers to put all over it too. Twisted Evil Laughing

Just kiddin..No way brother. I have way too much time, $$ and tears into this car to do anything less than a proper stock restoration. My buddy Henrik, who has done all the welding would drag me into a field and shoot me if I do anything less than a stellar stock job. This is all just test fit time. I probably have another a year of work before this baby is back to it's complete stock glory. Plan is to paint in OG L60D...after I figure out how in the hell to get rid of that lovely black vinyl paint rubbery crap on the roof... Shocked

Been busy so haven't had time to post any progress reports. Car has been home for a couple months. The rust repair work came out excellent and the car is solid.

Making good, but slow progress on all the prep for paint and re-assembly which mostly involves tedious cleanup of parts and removal of Silver overspray from standing exposed in the body shop, sanding epoxy primer areas that were painted with god knows what type of green paint in a feeble attempt to match L60D for reasons unknown to me Rolling Eyes

I'm going to Ohio end of April, with a trip to St. Louis as well and want to order/pick up parts to bring back with me.

A few questions I hope you all can help with:

Any suggestions on VW shops/supplier to visit in Cleveland and Columbus areas? Also around St. Louis? Our routes will be I-70 and I-64 via Louisville in between Columbus and STL.

Are these parts correct? Any issues from those who have used them?

Is the clutch disk here Ok to use with my OE stock pp and flywheel?:
