Maybe a "Variant" script? Although it might be the same length. Josh has one, maybe he could measure it for you. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Nope. The straight line strip takes the place of "Variant" on NA models, so the stud spacing is the same. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I figured that was the case. Bummer. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

I've been told by others that the only script that will fit is "automatic" and those hatches had different script holes than standard cars.
So it looks like my options are to have the holes filled or get an automatic script even though my car is manual?
Or would the "VW variant" or "VW 1600 TL" or "VW 1600" potentially fit? _________________ '67 Squareback

You can do whatever if you use a little filler & touch-up paint.

Maybe put a couple badges on it like this? Or find a tan crayon and shove it in those holes?

Thanks to squaretobehip for coming over on Monday and installing a new rear window seal and helping me get my hatch aligned properly. Just need to get the windshield seal installed and I'll be free of all my cal-look seals!
I've been thinking lately, my car has a 1641 with 42 DCNFs. I feel like the engine is pretty over-carb'd and finding a shop to rebuild/tune the DCNFs is proving to be a pain.
Would it make sense to sell the DCNFs and get a set of 34 ICTs? I feel like those have more support and are more easily worked on. _________________ '67 Squareback

personally, I don't really like the ICT's. I don't like the linkage set up, and you would be giving up what is fundamentally a better carb to begin with. I'd buy stock ones before I went ICT's again. I did have the dellorto 34FRD's, and I do like them and their linkage better
DCNF's can always be choked down and jetted right - I've run them on 1600's with a stock cam... Parts are readily available, you just have to look. there are lots of people that can help, John C from aircooled could probably help, as well as the bergs
besides, what could possibly be better than telling people you have Ferrari parts on your car _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Here are some more pictures/info on the car.
all OG savannah beige paint
1641cc w/42DCNF webers
fully powdercoated tins
3" narrowed punch drunk customs beam
CIP1 cosmics
VDO tach
full circle horn ring
front & rear gravel guards
pedro's rack with teak slats
hull camping hinges
i removed almost all of the stickers the PO had put on the car - they just weren't my style. I also replaced the simpson racing harnesses he had in the car with some red lap belts to help brighten up the all black interior.
the car has some serious rake, i plan on lowering the back a bit more to even it out.
for reference, here's how the car looked when i got it (there were even more stickers on it than in this picture)
the checkerboard vinyl bra has been removed as well.
the PO installed some cool, functional, and funky accessories. the car has a 16v antenna that i plan on either replacing with a stock unit or finding a stubbier antenna. he installed LED bulbs for the gauges which is pretty nice at night.
the engine is super clean and dialed - i'm not going to mess with anything here
short term plans are to get some tan coco mats for the front to finish up the interior. I also want to get the car lowered more in the rear and maybe a touch more in the front. i'll eventually replace the cal window rubber with grooved rubber and trim, but the cal seals are in pretty good shape. long term there are some dents here and there i'd like to have worked out - but otherwise, the car is solid and drives great! |
You need to put it back to FI. That's the rule... you either do the damn car right or you have to give it to me. |

I believe the biggest you can go with a stock setup would be 1776 so you'd be ok with a 1641. Plus nothing looks as good as a stock setup.
Or if you were made of money you could put it back to FI. I've got some stuff you could use haha. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

I don't know any - but it's incredibly expensive to have someone do it for you.
Wiring Works makes one - I don't have his email off hand, but I will try to find it. Id Imagine ISP west would do the install _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I would - just take lot's of pics on your smart phone or tablet
Almost everyone out there that sells a model specific wiring kit for any old VW, is actually selling a Wiring Works kit. You can order directly from him as well, but he will usually tell you to buy it from someone else unless you are buying multiple at a time.
They do have the type 3 kit on AC.Net as well
he will sometimes make custom kits - he made one for my friends Type 34, he and some friends tackled the wiring in one weekend. We used one of his kit's for a very early beetle. It was 100% correct and again, done in a weekend _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Good to know. With the kits cut to proper length and all wires in the same OG color, I figure I should be OK. _________________ '67 Squareback
