Thought I'd post some more shots of the body for fun. I wasn't sure how we were going to like the L87 pearl white but I think it's awesome, especially since I haven't seen any around us or many online.

Finally visited an old school lock smith that was able to cut our key blanks we had ordered from cip1 a while back. The car is starting to feel more and more original than it was wen we got it with these little details...it's the little things...hahaha
And he was able to make us a key for the rear deck lid. It nice to have keys for everything now. _________________ 1966 Beetle - Our Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611939 |

We plan to get the alignment done today and work has begun on the interior. Lightly sanding the seat frames and rear seat support which were red, we will be painting them the color of the car to better match the carpet and seat covers.
The boys seem to be highly motivated that it's almost complete, my oldest did a great job sanding down the rear support.

I see the fan keeping the sander cool - well, as cool as one can in the AZ heat. Where are you located? In the Phoenix area? We are in Chandler and just finished a father/son 66 project that will now become my son's daily driver. It was a blast to do the project together. Enjoy your adventure! _________________ 66 Beetle Sedan, restored 2014

I think the stance is near perfect! Most Beetle owners can't appreciate the simplicity, OE parts quality and German engineering of an air-cooled Bug until they restore one like you did.
What size tires did you end up mounting front/back? So, are you going to enjoy the Bug or did you start scanning the Web for another project? _________________ 1957 VW Oval Resto Mod |

Thanks vwnut, I'd still like to get the front a tad bit lower, but we will see how everything settles in first before we do anything too drastic.
The front set up is 175/65-15 on 4.5
The rear is 195/65-15 on 5.5
Pretty sure we are going to enjoy it as soon as the weather cools down, but I have already been looking out for a nice ragtop project next.....I'm hooked not sure the kids are yet but I'm hoping they come back to it sometime when they get older. _________________ 1966 Beetle - Our Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611939 |

Well we had a few days of cooler weather and was able to get moving on the interior.
Got the carpet padding glued down and all of the carpet permanently down. Took the seat frames apart, stripping them down and getting the red covered with creamy pearl white.
Installing rear carpet kit from TMI

Well I have to say I'm amazed at how well the first seat turned out.
After reattaching the springs to the newly painted frame, we covered the springs with some jute padding.
Then put on the tmi molded seat foam and then put more jute padding on top of the foam although we forgot to snap a pic.
Then stretched the seat cover over and smoothed it out.
Then we did the similar treatment to the backrest and attached to the base.

Back seat bottom done!
Hopefully we will get the Masonite for the rear seat back this week and cut to fit.
Does anyone have any recommendations for cardboard or hardboard that should go into the back of the front seats? _________________ 1966 Beetle - Our Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611939 |

Interior is looking good. What color combination are the seats and carpet? I assume the kits are from TMI also. I'm also curious if the foam padding is more durable and comfortable than the stock material. |

Had a very hard time finding some light gray paint for the headlight assemblys, after looking everywhere the best I could find was a metallic gray. It's a little darker than it should be, but it will do for now until I find or have some paint mixed up.
Can drive at night now and be seen! |

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!
The seat covers we went with are from TMI and are the smooth tan vinyl with sand tweed inserts. I thought the color combination would be a good one, and then the boys and I had seen a car in Volksworld a while back that confirmed it. We ordered the door panels a few weeks ago and can't wait till those show up.
As far as the running lights go, when we re wired the car with the wiring works diagram, the only wire going to the running lights is a single one connected to the center lug. Hope that helps. If not I can dig up the diagram or take some better pictures. _________________ 1966 Beetle - Our Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611939 |

Can you tell we were motivated by the cooler weather...haha
Got the seats all done....now just waiting for those door panels.
This little strip of carpet was probably the hardest think to deal with, the bar just wanted to keep flopping out of the channel.
