I am installing this piece and cannot remember how the very top of the seal is positioned. I have searched and found good photo references and descriptions for the bottom of the seal but nothing for the top.
Does the top of the pillar seal butt directly to and under the door window seal? I'm trying to prevent any obvious leak issues.
A pic would be great. This is for a '73 coupe.
Thanks. |

Speaking of leaks, there is a great but often over-looked reference resource here on The Samba called Body Leaks - Karmann Ghia
Look, Listen, Do It Better Booklet No. 14
If you can't find the source of your water leak on your Karmann Ghia after following the detailed steps outlined in this booklet, then I'm pretty certain that there is no hope of stopping that leak.
The other amazing but often over-looked reference here for Ghia owners is the 1960 VW Karmann Ghia Shop Manual - Body Section, and despite the 1960 model year reference in the title, almost all of the information contained in it will apply to all of the model years (with just a few obvious exceptions). |

Nova, thanks for the reply. Yes, I saw that pic, but there are a few things incorrect about that install that left me with some uncertainty. For example, the dog leg at the bottom goes straight across at a 90 degree angle when it should angle down across the sill plate. Also the seal seams to meander up the length of the hinge pillar again leaving some uncertainty (at least in my mind) regarding where it actually should end.
KG, thanks to you too. I actually referenced the Body Leak booklet as well. Plenty of info regarding general placement of the seal with emphasis on the bottom end of the seal, but nothing about the top end. Also the 1960 Manual makes no reference to the seal at all (that I could find).
Maybe I'm being anal, but I just want to avoid the inevitable leak.
If anyone could provide an accurate pic or description, that would be great.
Thanks again. |
