I think this is a little high for what it is.

I'd like to know where he's getting the 2nd lowest production vw ever. I can think of many other lower production vws than a 67 double cab

i doubt it was about the 67 model year. however, they did not make double cabs from 1949 through 58.

so, short of specials like swivel seat sunroofs and such, crew cabs are much lower production than any other factory model.

They made Double Cabs in 1958. Smile Not very many though...

i can't remember the exact number but isn't a DC rarer that a 21 window? i would say a Bay DC is rarer than a Splitty DC because of the chicken tax in the U.S.

If it was an early '59 DC, built in '58 with a seamed roof, or even a '65 velvet green DC, I would call it rare, but it's just a '67 big window (not aesthetically pleasing) which in my mind makes it the least desirable of the 2nd rarest blah blah blah...and beyond that, with the pictures provided, that bus really looks like a pile, I'd maybe give up a couple thousand for it, maybe...and I'd certainly never trade any running vehicle for it...

Would prefer to trade for one of the following in decent running condition:

'67-'69 Ghia (type 1) coupe or convertible (very good condition)
'63-'66 Notch
Late 80's early 90's Vanagon Camper (synchro preferred)
2003 Eurovan Camper (minimum Weekender package)
Audi TT MK1 LOW miles
or maybe a Porsche

If you think anybody wants to trade something on your list for your rust pile...they've gotta be smokin' ALOT more than you are!! Good luck! Rolling Eyes

Kinda funny, 3 maybe 4 of the cars he wants to trade for are lower production than his crushworthy DiC.

Creeping on this guy's ads I see he's selling all the original panels too:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1840649

I'm sure it will look nicer with a new interior in it but the original panels sort of match the exterior condition.

He's also selling the "Pussy Galore" engine that came in the Bus:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Without that fan shroud I don't know if he will get his asking price.

To answer your question, yes he know's about it. According to Chase, the guy's done a bunch of work on the bus but I guess we'll know when he post's his own pic's and not the one's of it before he owned it.

I've looked at this far too many times and it still scares the hell out of me...seems an honest description and the photos tell a big part of the story, but the price seems double+ what it should be IMO.

I'm not sure how much he will actually get but I do feel it's a high asking price. But, when finished the bus will be pretty much new.

If the bus looked pretty much new, or patina but the rust fixed and paint blended and new window seals and rust cleaned off around the window areas and paint blended and the interior looking fresh and new door top seals and tidy bumpers and not the bare metal where the wheel well was patched etc, I don't think the bus would have hit the whines.

I agree, and was not defending the ad. I was just stating that from talking to him (buying my engine back) that seems to be the plan.
I agree that he probably should have waited till finished to place the ad so potential buyers wouldn't need to used their imagination....
All but one of the pictures of the bus are from my build thread. He said he has over 100 hours in rust repair, paint blending...
Sounds like it will be a cool bus when finished. Still a crazy high number in my opinion.
