|
|
Hi all
I can buy a 15 window 1963 de luxe
with a samba roof and extra cargo doors added
I want to buy it but have some doubts
wether this really was a 15 window
The VIN is on the M tag is 7062923
The car should be a 1963 15 window
Can it be ? I believe it is a 1966 or 1967
car.
Please give me your idea.
I can send a picture of the M tag The vin tag
is gone i am affraid .
The whole m tag reads:
28N
425 081 114 130 139
UD 2512 381370 706 2923
Any help greatly apreciated |

Thanks Everett That helps. Any thoughts
on this kind of conversion ?
It looks to be done in a good way.
To finish wiil make a totall of 45000$
Will it be worth the effort or would i be
better of with a 23 window original wreck ? |

Since the VIN tag is gone, you really don't know the year of the bus until you locate the stamped VIN--if it's still there. Switching m-code plates is easy, so you could have a legitimate 15 window after all. If it is a 63 or 67, look in the engine compartment for the stamped VIN (just to the right of the rear apron sheet metal). If it's not there, you have other problems. |

a fake/clone anything will not be worth what you are going to put into it IMO
if it is a real 15w it's worth more as a 15w then a fake 23w IMO
if it's really a 13w that someone made into a 15w then making it a 23w really won't hurt the value but you will end up having more into it then you can sell it for IMO
if the title doesn't match the stamped number in the engine compartment DO NOT buy it
the m-code plate numbers are not the true vin# if it doesn't match the one in the engine compartment _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

how far did the conversion go?
it's one thing to add corner windows and a samba clip, but how about just about all off the rest... a 67 has other handles, no church key, has innies instead of outer engine vents, etc.
I wouldn't pay 45k for a hack, but it's up to you. If it's a REALLY nice bus it might not matter too much, but damn it would have to be a near perfect clone fot that money.
If it's an actual 63 15window, with wrong Mcode tag, it'll be a pretty good conversion as most off the other stuff remains the same (except for the belly pans).
Pics would help A LOT |

If the VIN matches the title then if you like it get it. You won't touch a real 23 basket case for less than 15 to 20 grand unless you know where one is that the owner doesn't read the adds here or watch auto auctions on tv.
I would roll a 20/20 23 window if the price is right, I like 23 Windows and would rather have a real one but let's face it with today's ridiculous prices I wouldn't buy one even if I had the cash. I don't think it would be a responsible decision to make. But a clone that's priced right that I could drive and not worry about, then yeah you're speaking my language. Laugh at my fake or hack but make no mistake my smile would be real!
63's came with lips on the rear wheel openings and innie vents and corner Windows, fried eggs, and big tail lights, as well as low hinge cargo doors! I would think if the corner Windows were already done the the next hardest thing would be hiding the 67 only gas cap and earlier front doors. Not impossible. Swap aprons and deck lid then yeah you would fool a lot.
But the problem lies when it comes time to sell just be straight up and realize that it is a clone and price accordingly. If this is an investment then probably should walk away unless you can get it done really nice and sell for a profit at 40 grand or so.
The opinion expressed in this post is the opinion of this individual and probably will not reflect the opinion of the owner of this site or the majority of the readers of this thread! _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

The bus crowd- generally wont pay top dollar for a hack
The general public - will pay top dollar for a hack.
Fact- 90k turned down for a HACK 23 dbl door at a public auction this year!
Just bringing everyone up to speed with the latest...

This is a very good point... 67s have some very noticeable differences. _________________ How to Post Photos

If you are planning to pay someone to do the work on this bus, run away!
If you are doing the work yourself, AND all the parts which bolt to the bus are included in the sale, you could do alright. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
