Anyone have the torque rating for the bolts on the oil strainer? I'm a firm believer in torque settings. I looked in my bently manual. I did not see it. Maybe I overlooked it. I'm sure it's in inch pounds? I'm sure it's originally Newton meters. I can convert it. |

Thank you I appreciate it. I use to have one of those. But I think this idiot threw it away. |

I have a NOS new-in-the-box VW dealership torque wrench that reads in inch/pounds. So what would be the inch/pound equivalent of 5 foot/pounds? I suck at figuring this stuff out (and at math too), it wouldn't be 60inch/pounds would it? I may give this wrench a try to more accurately torque the six strainer plate nuts. Thanks!

Yes 60 inch pounds. Times it by 12. _________________ Tyson

Not sure if you have an iPhone. But convert free is a great app for converting from Newton to foot or inch pounds and all in between. |

Wow! I can't believe it's that simple, I even guessed at it and was right, but I figured I was probably missing something in the formula. Okay, 60 inch pounds it is!
I've never used this NOS tool, so I guess I'll finally break it out of it's box and put it to good use during oil changes.
This tool is a 1/2" drive torque wrench.
This particular torque wrench reads in centimeter kilograms, not inch pounds. I'm told that 1 cmkg equals .866 inch pounds. Sounds right? If so, then the generally advised 5 to 6 foot pounds torque limit setting for tightening our oil sump plates would equal about 69 to 83 cmkg. Correct?
Unfortunately this cool NOS Zelenda torque wrench has a range of 3 to 35 cmkg, so it isn't enough to properly set the nuts to 83cmkg. I know it can also be used to set up steering components like steering boxes, etc.
Looks like I'll be buying a Tekton #24320 1/4" drive inch pound torque wrench (with a 20-200 inch lbs. range) on Amazon (about $39 delivered) specifically for this oil change chore.
Once the new tool arrives and I can verify/test it for proper calibration, then I can't wait to change the oil on something!
