Packed Ghia to winter storage with motorbike.
To-do-list for winter is very short this time:
Work: A small intake leak must be fixed and lube job for suspension.
Stuff to buy: Cardboard for trunk, optionally a spare tyre _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

Also concerned about not being visible enough so installed LED DRLs. Now I don't have to drive around with my headlights on during the day.

I was thinking about installing DRL lights in my front spot lights, or instead of the side lights, interesting to see them in the grills. I have the led brake lights under the engine lid already, every little safety feature helps on an old car! _________________ 1969 UK Karmann Ghia build http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=518789&highlight= |

Tires are BF Goodrich 3/4 Inch Whitewall 165R15 "Silvertown Radial", purchased at my local Discount Tire store that sourced them from Coker, got a Labor Day rebate incentive, waited about 5 business days to arrive, March 2015 DOT mfg date stamp, install was carefully done by store manager who appreciated my resto plan and freshly re-done wheels. No rubbing issues, rolling on stock rims.

It's a Clyde Berg built 2275cc with a Scat 82mm crank and AA 94mm pistons. It's got an Engle W-130 with straight cut gears. Clyde did his Magic on the heads and manifolds. Berg linkage, sump, crank pulley, valve covers, breather, full flow kit and gland nut. Kennedy Stage 2 pressure plate and a Cush Lock disc. Hopefully I can pick up an A-1 Sidewinder from Tiger and Berg traction bar this week and take it to Drag day next weekend at Irwindale.
Thanks Darrel! _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

Again, nice! Thanks, definitely will keep the info for future reference as I have plans to improve my current engine. Good luck at Irwindale! _________________ "Sometimes people forget they signed up to a HELP & SHARE Forum not a pissing contest"

Pulled the rear lights and got to cleaning some contacts up. I figured cleaner contacts would make a difference, but wow! The tail lights are good enough for use at night now!
Brake lights still aren't as bright as I'd like, although I only did the contacts at the rear. I need to check the switch at the brakes and also up at the fuse block. Funny thing with them is that they seem to slowly come on, growing in intensity as the pedal is depressed. |

Scored a 58-59 tail light lens for $120, a brand new repop script for $80 and a pair of repop Compettion license plate frames for $40 yesterday at Drag Day!

Took the Ghia to a French and Italian car show. They wouldn't let the KG in: "No Volkswagens!"
My car looking in at 1 of 2 Tatras (which are neither French nor Italian, BTW)...
Two Ghias that did make the cut - a 1957 Dual Ghia and a Chrysler Ghia Special...
The Chrysler Ghia with my KG in the background...
This is a great annual show for those in LA area. While no VWs, the show has a lot of rare and fun cars you just would not otherwise see. |
