I'm kicking around the idea of building a vintage performance 36er for my 58 euro rag. WW has the Okrassa kit,69.5mm crank,a performance can and the Abarth exhaust, but no mention of ratio rocker's or larger P's and C's. Are these not available?

Not yet.

What ever happened to the 80's that ac.net had falsely advertised? I'm surprised AA hasn't tooled up to make them yet, I would have guessed there is a large enough demand.

It is possible to modify 83mm big bore kit to fit, but you have to cut down cooling fins and machine spacing for the cylinder studs (wider on the 40 hp cylinders). It is threads on how to do it here on the forum.

You also have take up the case and cylinder heads to fit.

Modify a set of 912 cyls., bore for 83.50 and use an Okrasa 69.5mm crankshaft gives you: 1522cc's. Install a Porsche 74mm
crankshaft and now you have: 1621cc's! If I remember correctly, the barrel thickness at the head meas. 3.5mm+

Where are you guys sourcing the 80 and 83.5 millimeter pistons? Are you having them made? Are they production made pistons from another application? They don't look like custom CP, Wiseco, etc. Thanks.

I collected the 83.50mm NOS piston sets way back in the 80's when nobody cared for them. Wink

This came up awhile back using a Mazda 83mm piston, from dealer pistons and add rings, each appx $100 each including tx, $500 for 4pistons/+rings, too rich 4 my blood to experiment to fit but it has been done. Cyls ($$?) Getting pricy if u can also find cyls, as usual no warranty offered at this time.

Are these the Mazda pistons I've heard people mention here? 2nd oversize on an 83mm? What was their original application?

Thanks

Or use JE light weight pistons. That way you can also get the pin height right.
I just finished mock up on a 83,50 x 76 engine. Plenty of room to raise the pin height so engine with remains stock.

No. They are NOT Mazda pistons. They are GENUINE VW Metal Leve first oversize 83.50mm in their original boxes with rings, pins and clips.

So these are 40HP big bore pistons with a 20mm pin and not early 1500 oversized pistons with the larger pin? Were the old Metal Leve big bore pistons 83.5? I recently purchased an NOS set of NPR (Japan) P&C kit that is 83mm not 83.5 that I plan on using with a set of cast iron Porsche cylinders. Thanks for the info.

Yes. They are VW 40hp 1st. oversize pistons with 20mm pins. Metal Leve made STD. and 1st O/S. piston sets.
The Porsche cylinders will work after you bore them to 83mm and relocate the head stud pattern in order to fit.

I'm sure those things are tough, if not impossible, to find these days. Thanks, again for sharing.
