Well, I ordered a set, can't be any worse than mine now, which need a total re-build. Will post results when I received them and installed. |

Thanks, JLSylvester! I've bought them before and had them on my Bug and now Ghia. Great tip, cheaper than previous $30 price on eBay. Got 2 sets this time as reserve. Can't beat the price as they go for more than $100 a set on some sites. _________________ "Sometimes people forget they signed up to a HELP & SHARE Forum not a pissing contest"

I know I have never tried to put them In a Bug but would be interested to know if there would have to be any modifications. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia (project)

Yes, as I mentioned above I had similar sets installed in my old Bug. If I recall correctly it was just a simple bolt on replacement of the original non-retractable belts. _________________ "Sometimes people forget they signed up to a HELP & SHARE Forum not a pissing contest"

Well I just got my seat belts today and everyone is right, there is a few pounds of extra nuts, bolts, rivets, pins and screws that are really not needed. When I took the seat belt out of the package I pulled on the strap and it is in a locked postion and won't extend. What am I doing wrong? You would think it should just pull out but they don't. You need to "stabilise" the rectractor part by, for example, clamping it in your vise or bolting it to your car, I've found in the past. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Old minds work best - we have experience. And that experience is mostly based on past head-scratching, trying 100 different ways to solve a problem, and finding it by accident (as I did). _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Answering question about mounting.
Use L brackets sold separately.

If you wonder where all that bagged hardware goes, here's a link to the military installation instructions :

FWIW, this is how the OG retractable seat belts are mounted in the 1967 model year Karmann Ghias :
