on my cabriolet i had an object attached to the underside of the hood which was black and like a bunch of hollow ball attached together with some hoses running into it. was is this thing for and does it need to stay? i had the hood repainted and the guy took it off when he took the hood off to paint it and didn't put it back on and the hoses are laying free and he doesn't remember how they went back and didn't think it was a necessary item (a vw guy he is not). What should i do? thanks |

It is a vacuum reservoir, mainly used to actuate the flaps in the HVAC system. A Bently manual should have the hose configuration diagram in it. |

It does, and it's incorrect... the in-dash section anyway.
OP should really bookmark this site: http://www.cabby-info.com/ .
If you wish the HVAC system to work correctly, you need to reinstall the reservoir and hoses.

Next question: Where/how does the reservoir mount?
Answer:
To give a cleaner look and to get the tubing out of the way, route the tubing through the hood as ^modeled by my '86.
You don't need to mount the reservoir to the hood, but that's where the factory put it. _________________ ~Kamz
