So are there places you would be wise to drive a different car?

I hit a car show at Mt Washington where most of us hit the asscess road up the mountain. It would be fun to take my bug there but something tells me that would me difficult maybe impossible for a stock aircooled vw.

Maybe it's different now,

But in the eighties don't even think about driving one in a GM/Ford/Chrysler town, which would mean most major cities in the Midwest.

Love this photoshop job.

Ever play Zack McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders?

Mars and a bay window vw bus.

And humor.

I look at today's video games and weep, sometimes.

Maybe 'back in the day," but no longer. It wasn't Germany that doomed Detroit, it was Japan.

Or Detroit itself, depending on how you look at it.

Dang! I didnt know that my 1960 Bug couldn't do Mt Washington back in 1972!
I really wish someone had told me beforehand! Rolling Eyes

There are neighborhoods I would NOT drive through let alone drive a classic antique through!
There are highways I Would not drive upon at rush hour but to say it is incapable of climbing a hill? Absurd!

Up won't be the problem. Back down might be a different story. You won't be able to ride your brakes. And I would hate to use a low gear to slow your decent.

Why? That is exactly how it should be done.

Unless my VW was nearly priceless, I would take it anywhere I wanted. There are places I wouldn't go in any car, at any time, though. Has nothing to do with the car, and everything to do with self-preservation.

I've been up Mt. Washington twice on a bicycle. I'd have no problem doing it in a VW. I understand it's all paved now.

Funny you mention Mount Washington - been there and done that in my 1979 Westy:

It was back in 1988 when I was younger and more foolish, but it made it up and down no problem.
