Finishing restoring a type 1. The thing was pretty badly rusted. The seat springs were also rusted. Anybody have any tricks for getting them cleaned up? I'm almost leaning to a can of black rustoleum and giving them a good heavy coating. ....Steve

Second the sandblasting. I did that to the seat frames in my Thing when restoring it. Not only did it clean them up, I found the ones that were only being held on by rust!

For sure, sandblasting lets you see whats really going on! Sometimes what you find isnt great, but you can then repair things properly.
