Wow that's pretty cool!!! I didn't see a price tag though. For the right price I think it would be an awesome tool. Would have to hide it from the kids though lol! |

Price is likely to be outrageous. I see a serious heat issue with it as well. Likely to warp every piece of sheet metal you point it at. And probably the most dangerous tool in the shop. One bad aim and you'll be blind forever.
Cool video though. |

Wouldn't necessarily cause heat damage, depends on the type of laser. Different lasers have different wavelengths of light and some materials absorb the wavelength better than others. For instance CO2 lasers are infrared which doesn't get absorbed easily by metals. Most large metal cutting lasers are CO2 but they get around the wavelength issue by using enormous amounts of power i.e. 1000 Watts and much higher.
UV lasers like Nd-YaG and excimer have totally different wavelengths. It's definitely not an excimer as the UV light is highly damaging to human tissue.
Anyways, if the rust and rubber are easily removed with a certain wavelength it doesn't necessarily mean the metal is or it may be at a much slower rate. |

not knowing the wave length or the power used and to put the price into perspective, a 20mW 488nM laser is about 7k. This will not remove rust or rubber. a 5 mw 700nM laser will run you about 50k and will burn a hole in paper, give a nasty burn to your skin and blind you. I have not used one to try and remove and coatings but a surely would not want one reflecting uncontrolled off any shiny metal. |

WHOA!
That is by far the coolest thing to date that I have seen for rust removal.
Beats the hell outta that grinding, sanding, ospho, prime, and top coat B.S.
Any idea where a shop is that can do that on the left coast? _________________ I have learned over the years.

All we have to do is wait for Horror Freight to make a cheap knock-off. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.
