I recently ordered a set of wide 5 empi cosmics for my 64 bug.
I'm not fond of the black empi caps that come with them and was wondering if any one knows where to find some Porsche center caps that would fit( don't know the mm yet) these wheels. Iv see some guys make custom ones, dose any body make these to sell?Or if not even a repop " cosmic" logo cap that fits the empi's?

Thanks for any info
Rod

Oh and yes I have tryd ISP west

I couldn't find any cap that I liked that also fit. I to hated the stock caps, so I found some Porsche sticker to put on them instead of the empi logo sticker. Kind of like a band aid. Ran the stickers for a couple week till I could figure out something better.

Here's the final product. Had the wheels and caps machined to accept the early style Porsche caps. I had PIP do his vintage look treatment to them. Still need to dull the lugs down.

Man that's a beautiful bug, what is that a split rag? And what you did with the wheels looks sick. Was hoping ther was something I can just pop in there with out going the machine rout , hard to justify for my scab haha. But I even like the stickers, do you remember where you got them? I found some like it on E-*** but I don't know if they'll work, there 52' mm but round Sad and not just the crest. If you could let me know where to find the sticker you got it would be much appreciated

thanks srm1956

Just have a sticker made at a sticker place. I know the Porsche caps look nice but the wheels have nothing to do with a Porsche. They were made in England. The empi ones look really close to an original one. Here is a picture of my real one with an aftermarket cap. The cap is a little smaller than the original, maybe it will fit in your cap hole. They are 65mm. I think the sticker option is the best bet. The caps are $16 each, you could probably have the stickers made a lot cheaper.

Thanks volkz_Rod. It is a early 54 (missed it by that much). I bought the stickers a local VW/Porsche toy/vintage parts show they have every year near LAX. You could try the ones from E-**** and cut out just the emblem. Not sure if it will attach with out wrinkling or last out in the weather. The ones I got are UV rated and should last a long time. Here's what I'll do for you. If you can use them I'll sell the two remaining stickers and the two caps with the sticker on them. I can't use them anymore. I only used two stickers because I'm running BRM on the other side of my car.

Are you trying to say eBay? It's ok to say eBay, not sure why people do that sometimes.

Can't seem to find much info, but JJ and Jge make or made Cosmics also. The center area may have been closer to the correct diameter? The hole on the Empi's are too small. I'm planning on ordering a set of Cosmic's for my DC...can't find anyone in the US who sells anything other than the Empi version.

Sorry, kind of lost track ... Been a intresting winter haha

I found these "china"repair caps for Porsche cayan rims on eBay,
I was skeptical but they wer only 8 bucks shipped haha so it took
A chance, glad I did, they ended up being metal backed adhesive caps with great quality, has a raised crest with good color and "goldleaf". Their almost the right diameter, just a hair bigger than the stock empi cap, but you can't really tell unless you get your face like 6 inches away Smile
Heres a pick of the stickers next to the new cap-on ones ( thanks again to srm 1956 for the stickers)

Did the "China" caps fit in the Cosmic hole? Or did you just transfer the logo to the caps that came with the cosmics?

I used these off eBay.

Not the best looking in the thread, but they actually fit in the hole for the rim and are cheap! I used some clear RTV to get them to really stick.

I think the 65mm center caps are the ticket. I'd love to get some aluminum ones and try to but they are like $200!

When I had a real set of Cosmics there were no aftermarket caps so I copied mr warehouse's high roof bus and machined down a set of Porsche D90 caps to fit the hole and held it in with some silicone.

The repops have a smaller hole so you'd probably have to machine both wheel and cap.

I like it! I don't know why I was looking for Porsche caps when these wheels are Cosmic reproductions. Thank you for the idea!
