does anybody know this car ?
I.m desperatley looking for some history of my 356 A.
Any help is higly appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome.
The chassis no. is
101217
This was one of the last T1 cars.
Maybe some one recognizes the stickers in the quarter window,
which where not that common on a Porsche.

I assume they changed it somewhere in the 60s.
6 years ago it was changed back to the original bee-hives. |

Thats actually not correct. Based on your serial number, you were one of the cars that was transitional between T1's and T2's. People call them T1 1/2s. You should have tear drops and not beehives.
My car was 100467 and was extremely original.

In general you are wright Kevin,
but when the car was dismantled we found out , that the previous owner
has cut the wholes for the tear drops.
Following the literatur the tear drops where introduced in March 57.
My car is from Febr. 57 and has probably the "old" body.

Very strange - my car was built in March 1957 and has an earlier chassis number than yours, but yours was built earlier? That really doesnt make sense.

You are correct Kevin, it is very strange but not uncommon. Cars were numbered, but not always built sequentially for a several reasons, Some because of parts or options ordered for a particular car were out of stock, but the bigger one may have been that cars were painted in batches of the same color. For example, your 356 was Ivory (very beautiful too) and was probably painted at Reutter along with several other Ivory cars. Red cars were painted together, silver together etc, etc. It just made sense to paint a number of cars the same color at the same time, and this would lead to a later numbered car being finished before an earlier numbered car.
