I've found a couple of threads on here, but no specific answers.
Here's where I'm at with this problem. I've ohm'd out all the wires, everything is good. I've tested the reverse lights switch, that is fine. If I take the bulbs out of the sockets, I can put it in reverse and it stays running. The second I put a bulb in, either side, I get a quick flicker of light and the engine stalls out. What am I missing? I've never seen anything like this before.
thank you. |
You have the lights plugged in to the wrong side of the coil. Only the distributor should be plugged into the - side- everything else is + side. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

There is a wire labeled coil ground. Does that go on positive side as well? |
Original VW wires don't have labels. So what's that one for? _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

It is a black Wire. Must be the positive supply for the coil is my guess |
check and see if it's only hot when the key is turned on - if yes, you are correct. VW grounds are brown - but that doesn't mean someone else didn't change something along the way _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

See if it has power with the key on. If it does, it goes to terminal #15 on the coil.
Now, if you have a pertronix or compufire, that wire MIGHT need to go to terminal #1 (ground for the electronic points). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
