I came across this Vanagon on craigslist and I'm more in tune with the air-cooled models but this looked like a good deal to me. http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/5308430507.html
I've looked over the body a little bit on it and it looks decent, hasn't been up on a lift to check it out yet though. Looked like some new parts, it's inspected and daily driven. Thoughts? _________________ 1984 Vanagon Adventurewagen with EJ22 conversion

At $4000 It's almost too good to be true. Some rust showing. Rust on the rear window, but not on the windshield. ?? Snow tires means it has been winter driven possibly on salted roads. An underside check could be a deal breaker. Eventually it will need some rust repair. The seven seater is cramped with the bed down, but plenty of room when the center seats are removed. Four speed automatic transmission?

What am I missing here?
Why is this too good to be true?
Is it just because it's on the east coast?
Maybe I'm just out of touch with current prices. I dunno. Seems like I see stuff like the following on a fairly regular basis
52-- negotiable and without any obvious rust and *possibly* a recently rebuilt engine...

That seam rust and rust on rear window sill is just the tip of the iceberg. Proceed with close examination of underside, wheel wells etc...
Maybe its because i live in area where old vws are still relatively *plentiful* with very little rust if any at all, but 4 large seems like a lot for that |

That's a nice looking Vanagon. Where is it listed for sale?

Yes that is a nice looking Vanagon and a reasonable asking price. It would worthwhile to fly and drive it back to Maine or ship it to Hawaii.
