Engine: Sept 1956 (1957 model year--brain fart corrected). it may be a restamp, as the fat (1956-61) numbers were already in use.
Chassis: May 1949
Where is "-110426" located? I suspect it is the matching frame number for the May 1949 chassis.

Photo Nr 1...the hp / cc of the engine?
Photo Nr 2 is between the two front seats, next to the handbrake.
Photo Nr 3 is under the rear seat, on the hump. |

No.
1550496 is the serial number of the engine. If you look at this chart http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php you will see that the last engine in August `56 was serial # 1 533 485. The last engine in September `56 was serial # 1 569 111. Your engine falls between these two numbers. |

| I am going to say factory rebuild (kD) engine as it has no dash (-) before the 1 and between the 1 and 5 or at the end does it have any stamps on the other sides of the generator stand |

These are the only numbers that the engine block has.
To the right of the engine number is a small 45
Floating around the middle is a small upside down 5
Near the bottom is a large 51
Any more ideas? Thanks
