This was my '53 Barndoor Kombi at the time; which now resides in California. The Volkswagen lettering was usually painted by the dealer just below the rear window on barndoors and other late' 50s - early '60s buses. This was a VW Canada early logo branding exercise that ran up to about '55 but in some cases informally carried on...... I talked with a long time VW Canada employee late last century to get the story.

The branding exercise also created the Volkswagen Canada castings made here in Winnipeg that were attached to the right rear fender of beetles above the taillight... and in some cases mid to late'50s buses above the right rear taillight. Also dealer attached.

This picture is not the Royal Mail swivel... although the similarity is both buses originated from Manitoba, Canada!!

I was thinking of getting big stickers made.. lay the weed down and paint it.. humm... Should I make em real real permeant? or easy to get off? I could spray em with base coat only.. and not sand below.. they would be great abnd stick fine, but you could get them off with some thinner... I dunno... I wish I knew who was going to own in it in a few weeks.. I'd ask them... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I believe Mr Murray (commercial air) in Regina had a batch of 25 exact replica Canadian hatch transfer decals about 7-8 years ago. Perhaps he has a few left, or the design still?

Here's one on Ken King's Sunroof Barndoor Kombi:

Upon closer inspection, it looks like the SS would have used a "serif" font as opposed to the sans-serif font shown below. It is nice to see this bus come back to life years after digging it out of the bush Smile
As far as the rear Volkswagen script goes, I have seen many over the years and it is 100% a water transfer. They are all identical to each other, which would not be possible if they had been hand painted.

The two I've seen at OCTO were paint, not decals.
