Got it back together 4 clicks on inside. What fun trying to get it on the ground.
for some reason one side is closer than the other. I think I have two dif fenders on the front.
just enough to move the bug which is what I want.

Don't think I will get much more done today. Now that I have my base I can build the bags up off of the lowest ride height which would be for parking or rolling really low and slow. My biggest thing is I want to still be able to move if my air fails for some reason. The last thing I want is not to be able to move because is layed out on the pan.  More updates in the next few days.

Well because the rear is so low with almost full sized tires, which I want. I ran into some problems with some clearance on the back package tray. I did not want to do this but it looks like it has to happen anyways.
Cut line
Cram it in there, still trying to figure out the mounts but I am pretty close. I don't think I will get much more done today though.
It looks like I will have to modify the back seat if I want it to fit.
I really don't want to have no back seat cause I really never like that type of set up. More ln a few days

I spent most of the day trying to figure out how to do this. I know that when you bag is flat you want it to be strait up and down. So instead of putting the bag in, I made a fixture at the compressed height.
Because the angle is pretty far up I had to angle the top mounting plate so it would be strait up and down. Most of this I am making it up as I go not much info on bag mounting.
I spent a lot of time just fitting this side up. I still have to tie the front into the down tube.
Here is the back side
Here is the the tube that is going into the torsion tube. I will also that into the spring plate back with a small connection. I am trying to get as much triangles in as possible. I should be pretty good as far as flexing goes.
I might have to cut some access holes in the back luggage tray to weld up the top. I really wanted to tie one bar all the way across but it was just not going to line up. Once I get the other side fit up I will tie them both together in the center with some square tube as the load will not be in the middle only on the sides. If this was not such I pile I would not be going this low. It would have been much easier to just drop the tire size down and put an airkewl kit in. One other thing I should point out is if you run this low all the time the cv joints will go out. One way to make them last longer is put thing cv joints in as they have a wider range of travel. More to come in a few days.

Well where to start. First off I would like to thank BG Brian for letting me borrow his 230 welder. Its Great that the Samba guys help out when they can. So I am able to move forward now. All I can say is if you have the chance to buy one of these Do it. It very flexible and nuts on the settings.
Notice the old Betsy in the back. She does not cut it when it comes to thicker material. I took today off of work to do some wood lathe work with my son at a friends house so this morning worked on the bug some. Its been a while and it was good to get back to moving forward.
Got some more of the nasty old tar paper up and the cross brace off.
The problem is I could not get the bolt out on the brace on the pass side. So I just wiggled it and bingo, I have a new hole.
I told my son now that I got almost all the mold out and the rat crap out he can really start helping on the interior. The plan is to shave all the tabs and the dash and repaint down the road. I feel this is a good time for him to start to really learn how to weld. He already welded up a battery bracket on my 79 subie brat that I sold few years ago, he was 7.
So on to the bag mounts. The tops are welded in finally. I had to cut my tacks several times to get them to be strait with the hole in the front. If you have not noticed that the back tray is out. Its so much easier to get things fit up.

Going to have my 6yr old clean the floor pans out she is excited to help. I try to have them involved as much as possible but I don't force them to do it.
Prob be a bit before I get some more done.

So I got this from my friend who cert these and pressure test them. I had talked to him last year. He know what I needed psi wise and came up with this. I like it, it was a good price too and free. Its suppose to be 3 1/2 gallons but air wise I think prob closer to 4 1/2 gallons. Going to put a high pressure valve on it with a drain. Will see how it works out if it does not no big deal.

My son and I threw this together. I don't think the pump can handle it. four and half gallon tank. My other tank took minute and thirty seconds. This tank was going on 4 min to fill. It still looks cool though and I have an oil filled gauge too. going to check on it in the morning to see how much air I lost. Ran out of pipe tape so have to redo it prob. Also might throw a 12v small fan on it as it was getting pretty warm. I think it might be too much tank  Going to mess around with it some more. If all else fails will revert back so no loss. I am just worried about the bags in the back not having enough air.

Zodlaw I am working on a similar setup mine also takes about 7 mins to fill from empty. Not sure how much gallons the tank is.

That tank looks big. Mine takes 5 min to fill up from empty but after it kicks back on at 110 or so and takes under 2 min to top off to 140. I am prob at 5 gallons on mine yours looks more like 8 or so, you might need another pump if you use it a lot. I am resealed my fittings today and going to let it sit overnight at 140 and see where its at in the morning. The tank I am using is suppose to hold 4 and half gallons of water but air is prob five. I would say 5 gallons is pretty good size. You could prob sell that one and get a smaller one if you wanted or just buy another pump but that would prob be pretty hard on one battery.

I checked this morning and did not drop at all from 140psi. I use five wraps of tef tape and a dab of Loctite pipe sealant. Thats what we use at work and it does great. I also have a viair 175psi pressure relief valve showing up so if the pressure switch fails and pump does not want to stop. . These tanks are tested up to 200psi so I think it will pretty safe the way I have it set up. I will prob have to drain it every so often.

I got to spend little time with my son and show him how to use the porta band saw. Showed him a few things and he fit and tacked up the top center brace.
Good times. Its always good to know how to fit up and weld.
I am going to do two more braces on the back side. I will clean it and weld it out. Then its time for some air bag testing. I can not even wait, been long time coming. Hope to get an hr or so tomorrow and should be able to finish it up.
