I just recently picked up a hurst shifter thats mostly complete, but its missing the W spring and the sliding bar shown in the picture below:

Will it work without it? How hard are they to replace? _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

The purpose of that sliding bar and W spring is to give you a 3rd-4th lockout. When you hold the trigger up, you can then shift quickly from reverse to 1st without the possibility of hitting 3rd. Like if you were stuck in the mud or snow.
Since that scenario is likely never going to happen to you, leave it out. I removed those two parts from the shifter in my car.
Is that a pic of your shifter? If so, you have other problems. You are missing the base plate. Without it, the reverse lockout won't work. _________________

No, thats not mine, just a picture of one I found here. Mine has the baseplate but not the lockout bar and spring. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]
