I bought my Baja for $1000, probably dumped $2000 into it so far redoing everything just to get it road worthy. The thing was so jacked when I bought it I had to have a buddy follow me home (I didn't feel safe driving alone when it was -40 out). Parts get real expensive real fast and people just don't understand this. It was already a Baja but I've been working on it for almost 3 months now.

In the 80's Dave Hendrickson built a SCORE legal 5/1600 in a weekend and went and raced it the next week. Thats a fast build!

Well I have always made it a point to not "cut up" anything older than a 1970 model.. unless there has been a front or rear collision.. I also would not recomend cutting up any bug you thought you were gonna have second thoughts about...cutting them down is awhole lot easier than putting them back together...

It's not that easy. You make the first cut long. Then you trim it until you get it where you want it. Once you take the saw to it, there is no going back.

I cut mine a little short for the fenders I ended up with and it bugs me every time I see that gap...

There are no 1972 purists out there... It's not as clean as it looks in the pictures. It has a rattle can paint job that's pealing off and loaded with runs dents and dings. If you look just above the left rear turn signal, you'll see a dent in the metal which was the only tell tail of a wreck it was in. The back end was hit and was pushed in so that you couldn't get the valve cover off on that side. She looks good from 20 feet that's for sure... it was still hard for me to cut it.
