|
|
Having serious engine ignition problems, looking for the fault for the last 3 days without any solution. So I'm at the end of my rope now.
It's a type 3 '68 notch automatic.
Did a complete rebuild of the engine and 4 days ago it was running for the first time (for about 1 hour). Tried the next day no luck.
If I remove a spark plug I can see (holding against the engine) a spark when starting, so there is a spark, but when in the engine I'm not even able to ignite start pilot ( or axe deoderant whatever to gas start), let alone gasoline.
I have since then replaced:
- ignition coil
- distributor capacitor
- points
- voltage regulator of the generator
- new ignition cables
- new distributor cap
- spark plugs are not new but as good as (used for running this engine only)
battery directly onto the cables instead of inside the car did not solve. no ignition what so ever.
please help ! what am I missing.
thx

Willy- What kind of spark plugs?
Have you re checked point gap?
Is the little ground strap inside the distributor from the distributor body to the vacuum advance plate intact?
Is the distributor fully seated in the engine? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

The distributor is fully seated but without the spring underneath (was a little hard to get it fully seated, but not needed I think)
Point gap should be good I think 0.4mm but can always check again tonight.
I'll also check the spark plugs I used but should be the same as they use for a beetle., I'll check the type.
Maybe the ground strap inside the distributor might be a good idea to check since the distributor is still the original one.
thx in advance |

checked the point gap and is good, strap inside still intact.
Already the 2second one but wonder if my coil might be broken. It gets quite hot in a matter of minutes, but I would think this is normal since when the contact is on and I'm not trying to run the engine changes are that the points are closed and short circuit. |
