I just bought my first bug this weekend! Here's a couple of photos and the specs on it.
It's a 1967 Beetle that has been slightly customized, but not completed. The former owner drove it for about 5 years, then was tinkering on it here and there for the next five. It was primarily stored for the last 5 years.
The good stuff:
1641 engine with 5 years casual driving on it, unknown miles, runs strong.
4 speed tranny, shifts great.
New clutch, 1 year old.
3-stage paint in sun yellow with pearl overlay and clear topcoat.
Pan replaced
The tail lights are from a 1965 Impala (actually looks pretty neat)
Electric door locks
Alarm
Tinted windows
Chrome factory 5-1/2" wheels/hubcaps/rings
Low profile tires
Chrome custom bumber
The not-so-good stuff:
Interior needs attention- headliner, carpets, dashboard & seats
Seats are electric seats from an '85 Camaro and will be replaced
A few very tiny rust spots coming through the paint
Storage area behind the rear seat has rust
One rim is slightly bent and needs replacing
Needs brakes
All in all the car runs well and for only $1,000 I think I did OK.

For a grand that's not bad, but I'd have something done about those lights _________________ 1967 Zenith Blue Type 1 "Elaine"

Thanks guys- Although tail lights aren't authentic to the car, I kinda like the look. Swapping them out isn't an option I'm afraid, without replacing the whole fender. A whole panel was taken out and a new one welded in by a body shop guy to put these tail lights in place.
Fortunately he did a good job of it and you can't see any tell-tale warble in the paint where the original fender ends and the inserted panel begins. But if the fender on either side gets severly dented, I'll have to replace both with originals. |

Nice! I like the lights, leave them be. Besides, even in an accident, someone can repair them. For a grand, you did just fine. _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Did'ja notice the odd rear bumper too? It's actually off a Toyota Tacoma truck, curved to follow the lines of the bug!
It was given to the previous owner as a joke. They always told him he was "comatose" and they removed the TA off of "Tacoma" from the bumper. In raised chrome letters it say "coma" on my bumper! |

LOL yeah, it was a fun project car for him. He took some liberties and had a good time doing it. Nothing like unleashing one's creativity eh?!
I think I'll enjoy doing the interior. My husband and I built a pirate ship parade float last year and I enjoyed building it. We started with an old hull on a trailer that I got on Ebay for $27.51 and went to town with it!
Here's a photo of "The Land Shark". When we do parades there are also pirate skeletons all over it and about 15-30 pirates on/off the float:
