'Developed' by Audi but not necessarily used. VW dates to about 2005.

The hard part to understand - at least for me - is that VW says that if your car is affected, they'll fix it. It's a software update that won't affect performance and won't affect fuel consumption.
So, again, why did they do it in the first place? |

Why would anyone go through the trouble of even trying to get it "fixed"? Obviously it's going to pass your states emissions test, that's what the defeat device was designed to do. There's zero incentive to go out of my way and take my car in for a software update. I don't give a shit if it rolls coal on the highway as long as it passes the emissions test when hooked to a machine. _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

When all said and done they'll pay a token fine admit no guilt and nobody will be held accountable. Just like when BP ruined the Gulf of Mexico. Just like when Union Carbide killed thousands of people in India with a poison has leak. Just like when JP Morgan sold defective rifles to the US Govt. Nobody was held accountable or was brought up on charges. Multinational corporations do as the please always have always will. As a taxpayer you'll pay instead. |

Actually....listening to it right now.....and VW just agreed with the state department on a buyback plan for 600,000 vehicles.
And in the news this morning....Mitsubishi admits to cheating on emissions.
The sad part.....is that the VW direct injection diesels......diesels according to interviews with the university that did the testing......are still within spec for particle emmisions during 90% of driving sitiations, under spec for C02 and 02 across the board.....and only in violation for NOX emmisions at certain high stress points....hard acceleration, shift points and very high speed highway driving.
It was just stupid to even cheat considering its the same exact technology that BMW, mercedes and others are using.....and they have the same issues except that they run the urea injector to stop the emission issue.
VW could have done the same and in fact many of their cars alreafy have all thr attaching points and harness for the urea system. Ray |
