Yes, middle of August, 1963 so it's a '64 Bus. |
This particular Bus was found by C Moore and I . I don't believe it was ever destine to be an VW Ambulance. It simply has a ambulance divider installed. From want info I received is was a 1963 re-bodied w/ a 67 body. There is mention of this in the M-code envy thread.I belive it was rebuilt in the Netherlands. I think there were others also done in Italy? _________________ 1959 Model M1: 118

I thought I read in M-code envy... or another thread that KD = something like "special room" (where VW did custom mods). _________________ aka: Evan

This makes perfect sense^^. "Rebodied" is, most often, a euphemism for VIN swap. |

What do you see that makes it look like a '67.... and definitely not a '64?
(Besides pointy bumpers) |
The rear hatch latch is 67 only (i think), hard to see the rear view mirror but it appears to be the same as my 67 kombi. I think those mirrors are one year only also. Need to see if it has the 67 only radio hole in the dash. Interior cab door handles are the paddle style and have the "pull" handle above. What about the gas door, 66-67? I'm not an expert but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once.. |

Hinge carrier for the engine lid has no indent for fingers--67 only. Side panel stamping for gas has a finger indent--67 only. Gas door has no lock--67 only.
Hatch has finger loop--66/67 only. Engine lid has finger loop--67 only.
What can be checked but isn't shown:
Does the front heat tube have the tree vents? (Yes, 65-67).
Is there an emergency light by the gas gauge? (No, 66/67).
Is there a floor mounted dimmer switch? (No, 66/67).
Do the doors have the safety latch? (Yes, 67 only).
One year only Rear view mirror, large radio opening, and dual master cylinder may or may not be present on a 67 as they were added separately throughout the model year. |

I get so sick of seeing these on here way over priced..
Any idiot wanting to give $350 for this need to go do a search for 1942-46 chevy headlights.
This one is a $100 light max and that is just because it is in good shape.
can be found for $25...

The exterior front door handles are not early 1964 model (August) either as noted by the VIN. They should be ice pick handles. I think they changed over around November of 1963. _________________ ~Tarzan

Yep, just saw a pair at a local swap for $80. They were nice.
Personally, I have never liked the look of these on a bus anyway. _________________ WANTED:

Those are lengths of Deluxe trim attached to the inside of the gutters. They are there as a means of deepening the gutters. They usually only cover the front door opening. Brazil, being somewhat tropical, can have torrential downpours. With the large surface area of the roof and only four "scuppers" to outlet the water(one at each corner) it could back up over the front doors and soak a distracted person and channel excess water down the windows. It was thus directed down the windshields and over the turn signals to drip behind the nose and accelerate rot.
While the problem to which this trim is the solution occurs somewhat rarely, trust me, when it happens to you, you don't soon forget it. A river of ice water down your neck and shirt back is quite an eye opener. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

I understood everything to this point. How do you get a rush of ice water down your back from water leaking in the bus? Unless the water is travelling through the fresh air vent to the outlet in the roof inside? |
