For those of you who remember the Vietnam War --
"The Rev. Daniel J. Berrigan, a Jesuit priest and poet whose defiant protests helped shape the tactics of opposition to the Vietnam War and landed him in prison, died on Saturday in the Bronx. He was 94."

I met him once when my oldest brother took his hand-made board to Malibu, maybe about 1995. My brother made it from a solid block of old koa, made to the shape of one of Rabbit's more famous old wood boards from photos and drawings in an old Surfer magazine. He brought all 100+ lbs of it to the sand for Rabbit to see. Rabbit slid his hands over the rails and proclaimed it correct: "that's my board!" I don't think my brother has ever been prouder!
He told Rabbit how he made it like he saw Rabbit do in old films, with draw knives and planes. Rabbit then said, "Oh, that was just for the cameras; after they left we brought out the power tools, Koa is too hard for that shit!" Then he signed the board.
Always a joke, always humble, even when bragging. He was the essence of the Hawaiian surfing spirit, and will never be forgotten.
Aloha, Rabbit! Enjoy heavens perfect waves... |

Madeleine Lebeau Dies: ‘Casablanca’ Actress Was 92
Quote: |
The last living performer from Casablanca is gone, as French actress Madeleine Lebeau, who played Yvonne in the 1942 Academy Award winning classic, and in real life lived through experiences as harrowing as those of the film’s lead character, died following a hip injury on May 1. She was 92. |

I just saw that clip of the singing scene from Casablanca again last week, you could see real tears coming out of her eyes, great scene, the French singing drowned out the Germans, and made the Germans mad.
She - as well of the majority of the actors in this film - were escapees from Europe, saw this on PBS Cinema's Exiles. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
