Cosmetically challenged is fine. The Invasion is not a judged show or anything like that. Just a chance to get together with fellow Type 3 owners and enthusiasts and enjoy each others company, stories, and cars.
This is my Sophy on her way to the first Invasion back in 2002:

I added a tentative route for the Midwest Caravan to the Invader's Map. Plotting out roughly 8 hour driving each day puts us in the St. Louis, MO area Monday night; El Reno, OK on Tuesday night; Milan, NM on Wednesday night; and into Prescott Valley Thursday afternoon in time for the Early Bird Get Together.
BTW, almost 40 Invaders so far. _________________ Later,

Made some more updates to the Invasion website!
* Add more Invaders. We are up to 45 now! Can't wait to meet up with old friends and make new ones.
* Added more silent auction items that have been generously donated by our Invaders.
* Updated the FAQ page.
* A couple of other minor tweaks.
I also placed the t-shirt order last week. I will be picking them up next Friday. Those that pre-ordered and paid the extra to have them shipped to you before the Invasion should have them in a couple of weeks. For those that pre-ordered for pick-up at teh Invasion, I will have them sorted and bagged for you when you get to the Invasion and you can pay for them then.
Don't worry if you didn't pre-order, I ordered extras and will have them on a first come, first serve basis at the Invasion.
Hard to believe we are only 3-1/2 months away from the Invasion!
Get those Type 3s ready to roll. Prescott Valley or Bust!!! _________________ Later,

I picked up the Invasion shirts today. They turned out great.
If you pre-ordered and paid for shipping I will have them in the mail to you by the end of the week. If you haven't paid yet and want them shipped please send me a PayPal or check and I will get them out as soon as I have the money. The rest will have to wait until Jill and I get to the Invasion.
Just over 3 months away now! This is getting real! _________________ Later,

Pre-ordered Invasion shirts are bagged and tagged. Ready to make the trip to Prescott Valley. Those that pre-paid and want them shipped, they are also boxed up. Will be going in the mail on Thursday when I get back from a business trip.
Added a few more Invaders too.
Getting closer...just 3 months to go! _________________ Later,

All the pre-ordered, pre-paid with shipping, shirts went out today. Everyone should have them by the end of the week....except for Rob in Australia. Yours might take a little longer.
I updated the website with a couple of more Invaders.
Jill and I also made our reservation at the host hotel....getting real now. Less than 3 months to go.... _________________ Later,

We are up to 50 Invaders! Great to see so many coming out of the woodwork in Arizona and SoCal. Many familiar names, but lots of new ones which is great. Looking forward to meeting you all in June.
Crazy that it is only a little over two month away.
Gary & Bev Forsmo have volunteered to make up name buttons again this year. The buttons were a big hit and help at the last Invasion. It is a lot of work and they want the information to be right on the buttons. The info for the buttons (Name, City, State, and Year/Model of Type 3) comes right from the Invaders list. Please take a moment and check out your entry on the List....
http://www.carartbyjohn.com/2016Invasion/Invaders2016.html
...for accuracy. E-mail me with any corrections before the end of April so Gary & Bev have time to get the buttons together before the Invasion. Thanks. _________________ Later,

Hey John you can scratch Ellen and I off the list as we wont be making it this year either. We will be headed out to California the week before the invasion to go visit family and catch the classic weekend festivities. |

Bummer Leo. The Classic will be a reasonable substitute I guess. <G> _________________ Later,

I updated the Invaders list again with a couple of folks that aren't going to make it now and a couple of new folks. Still at 50 I think.
I also updated the schedule of events with some changes and adds. We are getting really close to finalizing the plans for the Saturday night Invasion Dinner so stay tuned for more info on that one. I added a cruise up to the Grand Canyon on Friday for those that want to join Jill and I. We are planning to make that drive. Looks like it is about 2 hours from Prescott Valley. Too close to miss the opportunity to see it in person and maybe a get some good photo ops with the Type 3s.
Just over 2 months until the Midwest Caravan heads west! WOW! _________________ Later,

42 days until Jill and I head out for the Invasion! Hard to believe it is only 6 weeks away. Time to start finalizing the caravaning plans, making hotel reservations along the route, doing the final shake-down of the cars, and all the other last minute things before heading out on a 4000+ mile round trip in 50 year old cars. This is going to be epic!
I updated the Invasion website with all of the latest info. More updates to come in the next few weeks.
If anyone else has figured out their route to the Invasion let me know and I will add it to the map. It can be helpful in making caravaning plans with others along the routes.
If anyone wants to hook up with the caravan coming from Michigan, e-mail me at [email protected] and we can start to make some detailed plans for meeting up. _________________ Later,

I'm looking for a caravan plan on Thursday from the Los Angeles area. One day drive.
I figure getting on the 210 east to 57 south to the 10 around Pomona, then east to the 60 past Quartzsite, then to Aguila, then smaller roads on up to Prescott.
I'd return on one long day's drive back through this route on Sunday.
Google says 7 hours each way for me but I figure ten at VW speeds and with rest/food stops, plus caravan meets.
But I am flexible and there is strength in numbers, so I'd like to hear from other SoCal folks on their plans. |

I was curious about the same thing Phil. I can only take one day off of work, so I'll need to drive out Thursday night after work or really early Friday morning.
Is anyone else planning to drive out at these times and interested in caravan-ing? _________________ 1969 Squareback, 1776cc

John, as a heads up, so far most of your route looks fairly construction free. About the only trouble spot I ran into earlier today was Terra Haute. They've got it down to 1 lane in each direction, causing a "choke" point. We were going west, so it wasn't too bad, but going east was backed up 4 miles. Southern Ill is still under construction in places, but not too bad. For us it was on and off rain thru Indiana, Illinois, and half way across Missouri (we're in Rolla for the night). I"ll let you know what from here to Okla City looks like tomorrow. Unfortuately, we're not in a type 3, but then at times I'm glad we weren't (damn semi's cutting us off). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Ok, sorry I didn't get back on here last night, but the balance of the trip wasn't too bad. From Rolla going west, the only trouble spot in Missouri was about 10 miles east of Carthage, where they're taking apart the bridge on the far end of the left lane. Don't know if they're doing a section of it, or the whole thing.
After that, we ran into another spot just before Tulsa, where they were digging up the ditches in the center, and laying new hay on the dug up spots. Traffic was affected in both directions, but wasn't too bad. They might be done by the time you drive thru though.
And finally on the west side of OK City, right before 40 splits from 44, they were working on the overhead bridges, causing a big traffic jam. This is also right before the airport traffic mixes in. From there, my ride was free of any construction, so I can't comment on your route going west from there (we went south on 44).
I hope this helps a little. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Couple more Invaders added. Up to 53 now!
Last chance to make corrections to your Invaders info. I am sending the list to Gary and Bev at the end of the day tomorrow so they can start printing the name buttons. We will have blank ones to for any late adds or folks that just show up. Please check to see if I have your names, cities and car info correct. Thanks.
Also I add a column to the Invaders list for caravan routes. I have added a link to the route Jill and I are planning on taking. The link takes you to the Google Map directions. If anyone want me to add their route to the map just plan it out in Google Maps and then send me the link. I will post it to the Invasion site. Hopefully it can help folks hook up along the way to the Invasion. _________________ Later,
