Here's what I remember, some smartass neighborhood kid the one always talking shit about strangers. He walked up to that chest cooler pulled out a church key AKA bottle opener and a straw. He consumed one or two bottles without paying. |

Anyone here remembers cruising down your local strip on a Friday night with your first ride back in the 80's with the radio playing Lunatic Fringe, Rock Lobster, anything from Loverboy...? |

All I've got left of my old Coke machine is this picture, It's a late 1940s model 39. That model held 39 six ounce bottles on a rotating drum and was placed in low traffic areas. About 25 years ago I knew a man that made a full time job of buying them and restoring for resale. The refrigeration unit is same as old household refrigerator so parts were not that hard to find. It was set up to take 10 cents sometime in the 50s but when it was new it took a nickel. The newer ones can vend beer bottles, looks good in the man cave.

I go back further when streaking was in fashion. I believe it was 1975 maybe 1976 it happened at the academy awards. |

When I was in Jr. High (circa early '70's) a couple of guys decided to streak around the outside basketball courts after P.E. class. They took off, the gym teacher ushered the rest of us into the locker room, and then locked the doors. Listening to these guys pounding on the doors when they were done with their "run" was classic. |

Any California kids remember Thrifty's? Back in the late 70's, I'd walk home from school. The Alpha Beta shopping center had a Thrifty's and ton's of newspaper racks and phone booths. About once a week, I'd score a dime or quarter from the phone or newspaper rack change slot. I then enjoy a nice ice cream on the rest of the walk home.. Yummy. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

There's a guy in Ventura, CA who does this now (in addition to installing sun roofs in newer cars). He has, or had a shop full of vintage soda machines. I'll see if I can locate his contact info. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.

I bought my first set of golf clubs & lots of ice cream cones in the early 60's @ Thriftys by the Sacramento River in Redding, CA. I ended up selling shoes next door @ Montgomery Wards in 1968-69. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Monkey Wards was a major player in the heydey of catalog marketing, predating Sears by 24 years. Sears and MW were godsends in the rural parts of the country. Well, to everyone except the mail carriers who had to lug dozens of those 4-pound catalogs around their routes.
MW died in 2000 and, like many similar companies, its name lives on because someone purchased their trademark. It's been resold once or twice since. |
