I purchased a 1968 dormobile top bus. I am having someone work on the body of the bus..and i want to attempt to work on the engine i was told this is a 1600cc motor. The problem is that there are parts that are missing and want to know what parts...the reason i came to this site is because i Was told you guys know your stuff. I have the haynes manual. But i want your guys input.. What i would like to know
-is this a 1600cc
-what parts are missing o(ther than exhaust)
-is there any good mechanics in the northern Illinois(rockford) area that u can refer me too?
-if someone can load a picture of what this engine looks like completed out of the bus?
Thank in advance for the input! If better pictures needed i can take them

Ok, from what I can tell, and I'm sure there will be plenty of others chime in,
That is a dual port motor, not original to the '68, ( came out in 1971)
Besides the exhaust, you are missing:
The dual port manifolds,Intake runners and carb..
You are missing ignition coil and park plug wires.
It looks like a alternator conversion and .009 distributor
You are missing the front engine tin piece, but it could be lying around somewhere,
Missing the fan heater tubes that hook up to heater boxes..
If that motor has been sitting for a long time without rags or something of the like stuffed into the intakes on the heads, You could have all kinds of things living in there _________________ '68 Campmobile-Pedro

Cool Bus! My parents had one just like it when they lived in Germany. Please take the time to do as much research as you can before you start working on it. I'd focus on brakes first. If you're gonna go you better be able to stop.
Your engine is missing what was stated above and possibly the cooling flaps and thermostat and most likely the hoover bit.
I assume you're talking about your engine because you didn't post any pictures of a motor. (I couldn't help myself, feeling dickish this morning I guess )

Buy Hot VWs mag. it has lots of parts suppliers that advertise in it and a lot of tips. Cip1.com is a good place to buy from as a lot of stuff has free shipping. Buy a repair manual as you will need it. This site has a book section near the bottom of the classifieds where you might find one used. |

Am I missing something here? Looks like the AB engine would have started life as a non US 1300cc. Hard to know what it is built up to though, with dual port heads I would suspect that it is now a 1600 or larger engine. The OP will have to tear into it before ordering internal engine parts. |

Yes^^ most likely a surplus case that was built into a 1600 or maybe a 1641, or maybe just some dual port heads on a 1500 engine, who knows..
I don't see gold blocks too often, I have one in my bus, but it was the BC Canada's builders signature..and I have a type 3 case..who knows..post some more pics of the Bus please, and welcome to the first year bay club _________________ '68 Campmobile-Pedro

You might want to replace your pulley while you're at it. Looks a bit worn. |

I made the same mistake. But there are two sections there. One for type 1's and one for type 2's. If this was originally from a bus, then it is a 1600.
*edit* I stand corrected. I must have not read those lines correctly. It does appear to be a 1600. My bad. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP
